Shawn Mendes looked dapper for the MET Gala 2019 and since the event is one of our favorites, we’d like to write about the outfit he donned in that occasion.
For his “rockstar stage“, as described by his stylist Tiffany Briseno, Mendes opted for a custom black Saint Laurent ensemble (in collaboration with designer Anthony Vaccarello) with white visible stitching. Inspired by James Dean like most of his outfits, he didn’t necessarily follow the camp theme, but it was still a bit out of his comfort zone and we can surely appreciate the effort.
In his Vogue.com interview, Shawn explained that they combined together tricks that he and his stylist used on tour: “On tour, we’ve been lining all my pants and jeans with stripes. Tonight we went one step further and lined them with little sequins.”
The look was paired with croc Saint Laurent boots with pointy toe and David Yurman bracelets and rings, as well as John Hardy jewelry.
His groomer Anna Bernabe applied gold and bronze paint through his hair with a brush, apparently it took her one week to convince him to do it.
Also, on her Instagram she detailed the whole process mentioning all the brands she used and we’ll report them all here (edited for clarity):
“I used Mehron Makeup gold, copper & bronze for the metallic strokes on his hair, Oribe Rock Hard Gel for the style combined with Mystify Restyling Spray, Kypris Anti Oxidant Dew, Tata Harper Energy Oil, Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist and underlight & eye treatment, Orlane lip balm, Kjaer Weis concealer, Laura Mercier powder and Weleda Skin Food Light for lotion.”
(Some of the products that were not exactly specified are not in the graphic, since we want to guarantee our readers the maximum accuracy of information).
