Talking about the inspiration for her outfit, costume designer and stylist Marko Monroe said: “The inspo was ‘iconic status’. I was thinking about the powerful, iconic women who have come before her, and the imagery they’ve relayed when it comes to glamour—of course, with a little Lizzo twist. If you’re a pop culture history lover, you’ll understand the influences.”
“We always try to give you sexy. She’s sexy, so we have to make that a priority in anything we do. It’s our top priority. And she’s got such a huge personality, so it’s important that her style is reflective of that—and that it’s fun!”

About the inspiration for the hair: “Inspired by Lizzo’s nominations and the start of the new decade, her longtime hairstylist looked to the ‘sophisticated elegant way’ of the 1920s. The beauty memo was Old Hollywood with an edge; Cher was also a ‘huge inspiration’ for the evening’s glam.”
Here is what hairstylist Shelby Swain had to say about the hair: “I wanted her to feel sexy, confident, and like the baddest chick on earth at the Grammys. Just being able to create any kind of hair look, she can create a character—that is something we like to play off of. One day it’s long with huge curls, and the next day it’s super short sleek hair.”
