I can honestly say that today’s article revolves around one of my favorite outfits from last year’s MET Gala, and I decided to take my time to accurately write about it to give it the attention it requires.

Who other than model Gigi Hadid could be the one wearing it?

For the Gala, the blonde stunner donned a custom Givenchy Haute Couture black asymmetrical draped tulle dress embellished with feathers in a lace pattern, paired with black Givenchy slingback pointed-toe mules with jewelry detail which we had the chance to see on the Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear runway.

Even the see-through gloves she wore, stemmed from the same collection and were customized, indeed the Givenchy logo was replaced by black Maison Lemarié feathers.

As you all may know, last year’s theme paid homage to Karl Lagerfeld‘s legacy and work and Hadid, often featured in the late designer’s runway shows, worked with Givenchy‘s former creative director Matthew Williams to make sure they honored him in the right way.

In a Vogue interview on the red carpet with Emma Chamberlain, Williams revealed that the look was inspired by some of Lagerfeld‘s favorite things: the drapes of the dress were inspired by fans, which were something that he really loved and orchids which were one of his favorite flowers (stitched into the train). Not forgetting the pearls that were part of the model’s jewelry choices.

Gigi coordinated her look with a pair of Lagos Black Caviar diamond stud earrings, a Lagos Luna Double Strand Pearl Necklace, layered with a Smiling Rocks Haute Couture Dream Necklace and ring on her left middle finger, a Lagos Luna Two Strand Pearl Bracelet on her left wrist, a Lagos Black Caviar Three Station Diamond ring on her left index finger, a Lagos Luna Caviar Pearl Ring on her left middle finger and a Lagos Black Caviar Diamond Circle ring on her right index finger among others.

When it came to the makeup which was recreated countless times afterwards, her longtime friend and makeup artist Patrick Ta revealed to Glamour UK that they wanted to do a feline flick to celebrate Karl’s favorite cat Choupette and he even applied a tiny pearl under the centre of Gigi‘s eyes as a subtle nod to Karl‘s love for them (which he of course inherited from Coco Chanel).

Gigi is a Maybelline Ambassador, so it comes as no surprise that her MUA used products by the brand to achieve the desired result. Here below you’ll find the full breakdown (courtesy of the brand and slightly edited for clarity):

MaybellineThe Falsies Surreal Extension Length and Volume Long-Lasting 24H Mascara in ‘Black‘ applied two times after curling the lashes twice;
Maybelline – SuperStay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lipstick in the shade #95Captivated‘;
Maybelline – Super Stay Up To 24HR Hybrid Powder-Foundation;
Maybelline – Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation in the shade #118;
MaybellineThe Nudes Eyeshadow Palette using the grey shimmer eyeshadow and the soft brown shade applied on her lower lash line using a dense synthetic brush;
Maybelline – Tattoo Studio Liner Ink Pen in ‘Jet Black‘;
Maybelline – Color Tattoo Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in ‘Chill Girl‘ applied on the inner corners.

The hair was styled by Laura Polko in soft, long, half-up half-down waves. The look went with the vibe of the dress and was probably kept off her face to let the jewelry and the feathers on her ensemble take the center stage.

Her nails seemed to be natural, except for a short French manicure. We will make sure to update this space in case we find out there was someone who did them for her.

The “Next in Fashion” host was styled by Mimi Cuttrell as per usual, further confirming the professional’s nature as an established presence in fashion.

Many entertainers and actors do see in her work a modern approach to clothes and the lust for things that are beautiful, edgy but comfortable.

Cuttrell‘s private nature is also pretty much enjoyed by A-listers who know their secrets are safe with her, she was indeed never embroiled in controversies of any kind, making her a safe haven for those who need someone competent but who knows what’s up in the fashion biz.
