Neal Farinah has been Beyoncé’s hairstylist for several years.

For someone so important in her every day life, he has flown relatively under the radar. In the age of Instagram, when hairstylists who work with A-listers become celebrities by association, he prefers a more laidback approach.

Farinah comes from Trinidad, where he first started styling hair when he was 17. He met Beyoncé when he was working at what is now his namesake salon in Brooklyn; in 2005, a client said her friend needed her hair done and it was her, from there on, they became a fabulous duo.

His celebrity clientele also includes: Solange, Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson, Mya and Mary J. Blige.

He doesn’t use a lot of products because he thinks hair should be beautiful, blown, carefree, and magical.

Neal Farinah is an active advocate of inclusivity in the fashion industry and show-biz. An absolute master of natural hair, he celebrates beauty in its diversity and destroys the racist cliché that compels black women to tame their hair in order to look like white women.

He is the one who helped Beyoncé transition to natural hair since her album Lemonade.
