People‘s Sexiest Man Alive for 2020 Michael B. Jordan looked dapper at the 2018’s MET Gala.
Jordan wore an Off-White tailored navy pinstripe suit accessorized with a diamond cross brooch by David Yurman and black lacquered shoes with a slightly rounded toe.
While honoring the theme of the night Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, for his stylist Ade Samuelwas important to collaborate with a black designer “who is paving the way” [writer’s note: Virgil Abloh, the creative director of Off-White]. This was the first time she had the chance to work with the actor and she really wanted to incorporate the role he had in a movie such as Black Panther.
In an interview for The Hollywood Reporter, Ade explained further: “The first African-American artistic director at Louis Vuitton, who is such an innovator of culture. […] It was a very clean suit from Virgil. It’s very true to Off-White.”
Let’s not forget that the brand is not known for suit wear and this was the first little dip in a vast ocean of possibilities.
During a Teen Vogue video interview, Jordan‘s stylist explained how she stayed sensitive to religion and the culture of Catholicism: “I stay true to the clients, their religious standpoint […] Michael B. didn’t want to be offensive in any way and really just wanted to stay true to his aesthetic as a man and just said: ‘I love suits’ and then for me the final touch was like okay, let me just add this cross brooch so we can just tie it all in.”
While walking out of his hotel, heading to the Gala, Michael was papped wearing a pair of Calvin Klein 205 W39 NYC sunglasses.
