Kim Kardashian West is well known for her knowledge of Fashion History and I found it truly inspiring to learn about the lenghts she went through to achieve last year’s MET Gala look. Let’s see how everything came to life.

Truly remarkable the care she put into contacting the Thierry Mugler atelier and also her physical effort to be in good shape to sport such a difficult dress; despite the backlash for her “impossible waist”, she made sure to create a fashion moment that people will remember for years to come.

She wore a Thierry Mugler “Wet Look”, a creation based on revisited archive pieces from the Mugler fashion house, paired with Yeezy Season 6 transparent mules adorned with custom clear drops resembling the ones on her dress.

The Gala was a great occasion for Thierry Mugler‘s comeback as reported by Vogue US: “The figure-hugging silicon frock […] was the first piece that designer Manfred Thierry Mugler has created in over 20 years for the House. Spun with silk organza and dripping with sparkling crystals, the Mugler number was made to mimic the wet shirtdress that Sophia Lorenwore in the 1957 film Boy on a Dolphin.”

Kim wanted to mix the California girl style with Mugler and as she mentioned in several interiews, the dress was 8 months in the making.
Miss Kardashian West had to waist-train to fit into the dress, she literally took corset breathing lessons from Mr. Pearlhimself.

Mr. Pearl is a very famous corset maker, he worked for Jean Paul GaultierAlexander McQueenThierry Mugler and John Galliano to name a few. His passion started when he first had to lace his grandmother into corsets and he thinks that wearing them helps him emotionally and physically, it gives him a sort of balance that helps him through life. He was a club kid and he happened to meet McQueen and Mugler through acquaintances or at clubs—it obviously led him to collaborations with both, even if he was never interested in fashion to begin with. He now works for private clients because he does not like the pace that fashion has nowadays, he thinks that corsets should fit like a glove, so it would be unrealistic to mass-produce something that personal.

For her gorgeous makeup, Mario Dedivanovic detailed the process here, if you’d like to see which products he used for Kim‘s skin prep click here.

For a full tutorial by her hairstylist Chris Appleton, scroll till the last video down below.

I highly suggest you to watch Vogue’s video about her fitting for the occasion, it explains the whole process into detail and it also shows the true passion Kim has for fashion. So refreshing for everyone who judges her just because of her past.
