There are certain actors that truly inspire me and who can make me feel a certain way–Emma D’Arcy is one of those.
I often listen to their interviews and I find myself wanting to be worth at least an ounce of what they are, be it the way they talk about things, the way they act or mainly the proper language they use when they express their feelings and impulses.
From the moment they entered my life I could also not help but follow their style preferences, because they are complex, not straightforward, mysterious and a pleasure to decipher.
That’s why I loved the outfit they wore to the London premiere of “House of the Dragon” season 2.
The English star donned a black and white Çanaku bi-color peak lapel suit from the Spring-Summer 2024 collection, paired with a black polka dot shirt with long sleeves and Çanaku red and black boots with a croc effect, probably purposefully resembling the scales of a dragon (same model as pictured below but with a different effect).
They accessorized the look with gold grillz by BITTER000000, a Boucheron Flèche Single Stud Earring in white gold on their right ear, a Boucheron Quatre Double White Edition Large Ring on their left index finger, a Boucheron Quatre Double White Edition Small Ring on their left ring finger and another one on their right ring finger.
It may not seem obvious but the custom grillz were intended to resemble the series’ gold logo. Keep in mind that it is not exactly an easy feat, so I think that you should also use your imagination a little bit while interpreting the design.
Emma balanced out their striking outfit with a natural no-makeup makeup look. Their MUA for the occasion, Phoebe Walters, focused all efforts on the skin and its luminosity, which Walters achieved by using the following products (slightly edited for clarity):
– Skin Rocks – The Rich Moisturiser for skin prep
– Rhode Lip Treatment
– Merit Day Glow & Flush Balm (no shades specified)
– Vieve Modern Radiance Concealer (no shade specified)
– Anastasia Beverly Hills (no products specified)
– Make Up For Ever – ‘Endless Cacao‘ Pencil
Their hair was styled by Jody Taylor in a short wet-looking, messy do. It almost looked like it was fresh out of the shower but it also went very well with the soft makeup they had going on.
Taylor is a BaBylissPRO UK ambassador and he mentioned using product samples from the brand that are slated to come out next year, so we cannot give you further details related to D’Arcy‘s hairstyle.
Emma was styled by Rose Forde, someone I deeply admire.
The “Mothering Sunday” actor tends to work with the same team because they know Emma already and they understand their approach to what it means to be an artist needing to express themselves through different avenues to a point of no recognition.
Emma masterfully–as always–put it in an interview for Highsnobiety:
“Clothes are armor for me. They’re essential to who I am, and I feel different in different outfits. I wear things until they ought to be in the rag pile. Outfits are a very tangible way to control how people see you. It’s related to why I dyed my hair bright red a little while ago. I didn’t really recognize myself at first—I felt new, and it was bliss. I’m chasing that exact feeling—a distance from a person familiar with my reflection. It’s also why I’ve worked with the same stylist [Rose Forde] and hairdresser [Jody Taylor] for years. It’s a real privilege to feel seen without any explanation.”
I do consider myself an artist too and there are endless times in which I feel like I need to rebuild myself anew in order to express how I feel, because there was a period in my life where I did all I could to erase myself from the equation, I tried to be what is perceived as “normal” but it never felt like me, it always felt imposed and artificial.
And as much as clothes, makeup and all these crazy accessories can be frivolities for a lot of people out there, they can be the escape a person needs in order to feel alive and worthy of living in this world for someone else.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much writing here has carried me through tough times and I feel like following Emma‘s career and their duality as a non-binary actor has helped me a big deal in finding that confidence in myself that I felt was lost somewhere, never to be found again.
Emma, you are a true gift to this world and I admire you immensely.
