We love a well thought out outfit and there’s nothing more enjoyable than to see it in menswear, because it is truly difficult to find (I can’t tell you how much time I spend looking for worthy alternatives each week).

But luckily, a few days ago, actor Dwayne Johnson surprised me and since it has been a long time since I last wrote about him, I decided to do it today.

For the London premiere of his latest project “Moana 2“, Johnson donned a long-sleeved black leather Amiri Palm Blouson with teal embossed palm stitching throughout, front zip closure and spread collar paired with black smart pants and a black ribbed tank top.

According to his stylist he accessorized the ensemble with a pair of black Stuart Weitzman loafers, gold jewelry by David Yurman, rimless Cartier Core Range sunglasses with grey degradé lenses and a custom-made, one-of-a-kind Jacob & Co. Matai watch.

The watch was what prompted me to write about this outfit today, because I thought its peculiarity might be worthy of interest to you all.

According to a press release by Jacob & Co.: “Matai means “chief” or “leader” in the Samoan language, symbolizing Dwayne Johnson’s deep connection to his culture, his role as a protector of his family, and his warrior spirit. The name evokes the themes of resilience, leadership, and the cultural heritage reflected in his tattoo and the design of the watch.

The extraordinary Jacob & Co. timepiece draws direct inspiration from Johnson’s tribal-inspired tattoo, which pays homage to his Samoan roots and serves as a symbolic link to his Moana 2 character, Maui. In the film, Maui’s tattoos represent his triumphs, struggles, and the traditions he holds dear—paralleling the personal meaning behind Johnson’s real-life ink. […]

The piece had a 18K rose gold case complemented by a black alligator strap with a titanium and rose gold buckle.

Dwayne‘s long time collaborator and stylist Ilaria Urbinati gave a little bit of further context, by explaining that they went for gold and black because they gave the watch a timeless and luxurious feel that made it suitable to be worn with every look (which he did during the press tour).

Urbinati has proven to be Dwayne‘s style soulmate, time and time again.

She has masterfully understood how to translate what the actor wants and doesn’t want to wear and what he would like to express and convey through his style choices, especially when it comes to values or paying homage to matters that are close to his heart.
