These days are pretty hectic, seen through the point of view of someone who writes about award shows–that’s why my articles can be delayed, but just because I am gathering information related to what you’ll likely read here in the future.

In the meantime I’ll try to talk about who’ll be a nominated artist when the occasion affords it or I’ll try to stay away completely by writing about looks that are significant in their own way.

Today is one of those days where I try to be distant from the award show conversation, while discussing something relevant to menswear: that is actor Asa Butterfield attending last year’s GQ Men of the Year Awards in London.

On the red carpet, Butterfield was seen wearing a light green, notch lapel pinstripe single-breasted suit paired with black Paul Smith Bancroft high-shine loafers with round toe and a white men’s shirt with PS‘ signature logo underneath the jacket.

To complement his look, he opted for a Boucheron Quatre black edition small ring in white gold on his right index finger, a Boucheron Quatre white gold diamond ring on his left middle finger and another bracelet that was mostly hidden by his sleeve.

Apparently he also donned a Grand Seiko watch but there was no shot where it was possible to identify it and for that we are sorry.

The “Sex Education” actor’s grooming was courtesy of groomer/educator/hairstylist Charlie Cullen, who made sure his complexion looked even and his hair was freshly in place.

You may have noticed that there is no mention of a stylist involved, that’s because Asa collaborated with Paul Smith directly, something which was confirmed to me after a brief conversation with one of his frequent stylists Christopher Brown.

What prompted me to write about this ensemble was the fact that we rarely see such colors in menswear and whenever I’m able stray away from an usual black suit I am more than glad (don’t get me wrong, I like a fine dark suit but I also believe in variety).

I liked the little accents on his shoes that were matched with his jewelry and the color of the suit that clashed with his eyes but felt harmonious.

Butterfield is another suit enthusiast but through his work with Brown we can also catch his appreciation for bold or “odd” colors and prints, a playful spin on the customary black get-up.
