I finally had the time to fully research Zoey Deutch‘s outfit for last year’s MET Gala–it feels weird writing it–and I could not wait to write about another Versace moment that will be left to posterity for years and years to come.

The stunning Zoey looked like a dream in a disco-inspired custom Atelier Versace gown. According to the fashion house: “Completely embroidered with Swarovski crystals, the design recalls American fashion icons and the Manhattan club scene. The piece is finished with an extravagant cape featuring shimmering strings of water-drop crystals.”

The ensemble was paired with custom dyed Stuart Weitzman Bonita platforms, a Benedetta BruzzichesGiulietta Degli Spiriti‘ bag, Harry Winston Diamond Links medium earrings and other silver rings.

Speaking of American fashion icons references, it’s also impossible not to notice the outfit’s resemblance to this Bob Mackie dress which he designed for Cher to wear on “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour” in 1972.

It was of course modernized and altered for the Gala night, but the references are visibly there.

For the Y2K look, makeup artist Jenna Kristina used Buxom Cosmetics and Lashify products, here is a list:

“We packed ‘La-La-Lavish‘ on the lid and added ‘Invite Only‘ to her crease. ‘Silk Sheets‘ mixed with ‘Cashmere Cravings‘ to pop her brow. ‘Hold The Line‘ waterproof liner to draw a full dramatic cat eye. We finished the look with Full Force Plumping Lipstick in ‘Goddess‘ and Full-On Plumping Lip Gloss in ‘Victoria‘.

According to Allure, “hairstylist Gregory Russel extended Deutch‘s hair down to her waist, citing Cher as his inspiration, he added texture to her new hair with a 1.5-inch barrel curling iron and a squirt of the Pureology Shine Bright Taming Serum“.

Zoey‘s colorist Jenna Perry opted for a Mocha Chocolate tone to dye her hair.

When it came to nails, manicurist Pattie Yankee painted some acrylic extensions with an Opi gel polish in ‘Don’t Toot My Flute‘ and painted by hand the little stars on them using Glitz Accessories & Such gel paint and Pattie Yankee files and tools.
