Today we’ll talk about refined luxury and how brands incorporate house codes into modern creations by taking Zoe Saldaña and her dress for the Los Angeles premiere of “Lioness” season 2 as an example.

I have to admit that I was intrigued by the shapes of the gown she was wearing, hence why I was determined to know more, and I am glad I did.

For the occasion, Saldaña donned a Balmain light lavender tank top with a plunging neckline, plus a light red structured skirt with a thigh-high slit from the Spring 2025 Ready-to-Wear collection, paired with black Saint Laurent Carole Crystal-Buckle Silk Stiletto Sandals with square toe.

The American stunner also accessorized the look with Dyne jewels.

According to the famed French luxury fashion house, the plunging neckline and thigh-high slit highlighted the iconic “Jolie Madame” silhouette, beloved by Monsieur Balmain.

For those who don’t know it, in 1949, Balmain created “Jolie Madame” which was the house first perfume. It became so popular that the designer even named his Fall 1952 collection that way, building it upon Balmain‘s bold and fresh New French Style, referencing the house’s tailored Parisian style.

The purpose of this style was not usefulness but rather beauty and the emphasis on women’s form and charm.

The actress was made up by Vera Steimberg who opted for a light red eyeshadow culminating in a little flick, an evened out base and juicy rose-y lips.

Her hair was styled by Mara Roszak in a side-parted wavy do that Zoe carefully laid on her right shoulder. The pro used her own haircare line RŌZ to give the actress’ hair shine and to tame flyaways.

I am not sure who did her nails since I am awaiting confirmation from a professional, in case I get a response, I’ll make sure to update this space.

What I do know is that Saldaña was styled by Petra Flannery who has been with the actress through thick and thin.

Through time, Flannery has managed to craft a cohesive, elegant and overall graceful style pattern that emphasizes the “Avatar” actress’ petite figure while at the same time leaning on a very sensual vision for herself, resulting in tailored outfits, rich materials and colors that complement her skin.

Lioness, also known as Special Ops: Lioness, is an American spy thriller television series created by Taylor Sheridan that premiered on July 23, 2023, on Paramount+.

In May 2024, the series was renewed for a second season which premiered on October 27, 2024.

The series is a spy thriller that follows the leader of undercover CIA operations on the war on terror by enlisting female operatives that are known as Lionesses.

Saldaña stars as Joe McNamara, a CIA senior case officer in charge of the Lioness program in the field.
