If you are in the mood for festivities, today’s article is right up your alley.
After watching the movie “Blink Twice” this past weekend, I was reminded of an outfit I saw Zoë Kravitz wearing to the London premiere of the project, later realizing why the actress went out of her comfort zone by choosing a color palette that isn’t usually part of her wardrobe.
If you’re curious about it, keep on reading.
Kravitz donned a red Saint Laurent long dress with a scoop neckline, paired with red patent leather Saint Laurent Zoe 105 slingback pumps.
She complemented her ensemble with a pair of Jessica McCormack 6.23ct Oval Diamond and White Gold Gypset Hoop Earrings in 18k white gold and yellow gold, a Jessica McCormack Twisted Gold Pear-Shaped Diamond ring on her right index finger and–what seems to be–another Jessica McCormack 5.05ct Cushion Diamond Button Back Ring in 18k blackened white gold and yellow gold on her left ring finger.
Going back to the color used for the outfit, it is worth noting that there is plenty of red in the movie because of the amount of blood and killings (but also gift bags, dresses and flowers) and that primary colors in general do have meaning throughout the film and I think that people aren’t talking enough about it online.
I suppose red in the flick symbolizes danger and memory loss (you should definitely watch the movie to know what I am talking about) and since Zoë was the director, I am pretty sure there was a talk with her stylist Andrew Mukamal who helped her translate the themes of the movie into clothes, without straying away from what she feels comfortable in and the brands she loves wearing.
Her simple but effective makeup was courtesy of Nina Park and consisted in brick red lips, plus darkened and combed up eyebrows while her hair was styled in a top knot bun by Nikki Nelms, a hairdo that has practically been her trademark.
The “Kimi” actress’ manicure was created by Imarni Ashman, who referenced the expression “red rabbit” often used in the movie.
A rabbit is a prey but at the same time it’s also very fast and instinctive when it comes to its movements.
Chanel was the brand used to achieve the result.
All these little Easter eggs let us understand how much effort Zoë put into the job and how multifaceted and intriguing was her project, right from the start. In retrospect, you also get why the movie was originally called “Pussy Island” but its title was changed due to marketing reasons and optics.
It’s definitely a movie that needs to be watched multiple times to truly peel all the layers and their meanings.
Ultimately, she was styled by her longtime friend and collaborator Andrew Mukamal, someone who’s able to capture her essence and isn’t there for the gimmicks or the praise.
He’s just there to execute a vision and the style of the clients who have flocked to him lately speaks for itself–Zoë was a pioneer even in this field, because it was thanks to her that I discovered Andrew years ago, a testament to how incredible she has always been in spotting the most prestigious talents.
