I closely followed Zendaya Coleman‘s press tour for the movie “Challengers” and I was delighted, day after day.
Every time she has a new project out (especially one that was postponed because of the actors’ strikes) I wonder where the inspirations for the looks would come from and how the dresses that pass in front of our eyes will shape the current Zeitgeist.
Stay with us if you would like to know how the stunner and her stylist Law Roach kept the method dressing trend alive, with a sprinkle of nostalgia.
Coleman donned a green bespoke Loewe long dress with a plunging neckline and a bare back and thigh-high slit, paired with matching custom Loewe pumps.
She also complemented her ensemble with her trusted Bulgari jewels: a pair of High Jewelry diamond earrings and a Serpenti ring on her left middle finger.
In a video interview for Access, Zendaya described her dress as a “bedazzled tennis court” and we can also tell you that the inspiration for it came from Michelle Pfeiffer‘s dress in “Scarface” (1983), which was the masterful work of the late American costume designer Patricia Norris.
Here is a Vogue France article you can read if you’d like to know more about the dress.
If you look at Zendaya‘s dress carefully, on the front part you’ll spot the shadow of someone serving, an explicit tribute to the film.
For her makeup, Ernesto Casillas opted for a “sparkle situation”, defining her eyes so it didn’t get lost. He confidently applied several coats of greens on her lids, using lighter hues blended towards her brow bone and then sealed the deal with a juicy peach lip gloss. The skin was luminous and glowy.
In an interview for Vogue, the actress mentioned her dyeing her hair blonde to symbolize a sort of reset, to make it feel like a different press tour while her hairstylist Ursula Stephen explained that they were going for the ‘Old Money‘ look (a sophisticated and timeless aesthetic that stands the test of time).
To create the effortless updo, Stephen used The Hair Shop Pro 7 Clip-ins in the shades ‘French Toast #1846‘ and ‘Sandy Bronde #840‘.
Here is how to achieve the look (courtesy of The Hair Shop):
“- Once the hair was blown out, I added velcro rollers to each section for added volume.
– After the hair was set, I removed the rollers and brushed out the hair to soften the look.
PRO TIP: For more volume, I used The Hair Shop 18” Pro 7 Clip-ins around the head and teased the roots to blend everything seamlessly.
– I then gathered the hair, leaving the bangs out, into a low bun and secured it in place with a combination of a hair tie and hair pins.
– To finish, I styled the bangs and left them down to frame the face and create an effortless finish.”
Zendaya also sported a short light pink manicure and if there is something you should know about her, is the fact that she religiously takes care of her nails, whether you notice it or not.
Coleman was styled–as always–by Law Roach, who wanted to start the press tour with a bang, with a very decisive look. This time the duo delved into a different territory, highlighting the fact that the “Dune” actress is starting to work on more mature roles after having played young characters for a long time.
The look played into method dressing but not too much and those that followed surely reflected the themes and the colors of the movie but in a subtler way, and I think it was the right approach that kind of naturally faded towards the end.
She is slated to start working on the third season of “Euphoria” in January 2025, so I guess she is now enjoying her down time to go back into full gear and–eventually–a new press tour whenever the time is ripe.

Challengers is a 2024 American romantic sports drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes.
The film centers around the love triangle between Tashi Duncan, an injured tennis star turned coach (played by Zendaya), her low-circuit tennis player ex-boyfriend Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), and her tennis champion husband Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) across thirteen years of their shared relationship, culminating in the latter two’s match at the ATP Challenger Tour.
