Yene Damtew

Yene Damtew is a hairstylist, salon owner and educator based in the greater D.C metropolitan area. At age 16, while styling out hair out of her parent’s California home, she enrolled into cosmetology school. Six month after she graduated, she packed her bags and moved to Washington DC to become a hairstylist to the Obama family.

This life changing position allowed her to take her skills beyond the chair, collaborating with makeup artists and fashion designers, styling hair for covers and complete editorial shoots.

Her work has been featured in publications including Allure, GQ, and Vogue magazine noting her “Good Hair is Healthy Hair” philosophy with a modern edge keeping a roster of Hollywood and political icons happy.

With over 15 years of experience she has done just about everything you can imagine within the hair industry.

In 2015, she earned her Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Marymount University. Shortly after graduating, she opened Aesthetics Salon where she has created a safe inclusive community of top-rated hairstylists that fully embrace the concept of connecting with everyday women while changing the narrative of the typical salon experience.

She also volunteers her time as an active board advisor for empowering groups like The Color Vision and Habesha Networks.
