I love revisiting the Vanity Fair Oscar Afterparty, because I think the event perfectly balances the need for glamour but also humor in dressing.

That’s why on this gloomy Tuesday I decided to write about Tate McRae attending the event last year.

For the party night, McRae donned a silver custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress featuring Swarovski crystal mesh and silver metal mesh, paired with silver René Caovilla crystal-embellished slingback sandals.

She also complemented her ensemble with a pair of Rainbow K Horn full diamond earrings in 14K gold, a Nicole Rose ring on her right ring finger and in some shots she was also seen casually carrying a silver Ludovic de Saint SerninThe Cleavage‘ bag.

The Canadian beauty was made up by Lilly Keys, who opted for a hot, smokey and bronze look that emphasized the color of Tate‘s eyes.

Here is how Keys described the getting ready process and skincare regimen to her Instagram followers:

“Flawless glam starts with the right prep. I cleansed Tate’s skin with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cleanser for a fresh, hydrated base, then locked in moisture with Hydro Boost Ultra Hydrating Serum and Hydro Boost Water Gel for plump, dewy skin. I misted Ultra Sheer Body Spray SPF 70 for radiant, protected arms & legs with a gorgeous sheen. Hydrated skin is the ultimate foundation for any look.”

And then on to the makeup:

“To give Tate this romantic, dewy look with sultry, sooty lashes, I started by lifting and setting her gorgeous brows with GrandeBROW LAMINATE, filling in with GrandeBROW 2-in-1 for soft definition. After curling her lashes with GrandeLASH Lift, I layered GrandeWRAP Tubing Mascara to create long fluttery last-all-night lashes.”

According to the brand she also used a GrandeLIPS Lip Plumper Gloss.

Her hair was styled in a sleek, slightly parted to by Chad Wood.

Even though the look may have seemed simple, there was a lot of work injected into it and here you’ll find all the products and tools he mentioned using on his socials.

“To achieve this look we started off using the TRESemmé All-in-one Style Primer through the mid-lengths and ends and brushed it through using the Kristin Ess Large Paddle Brush.

Next, we used the Kristin Ess Soft Volume Blow Dry Brush to ensure a smooth, voluminous foundation.

Starting at the base of the nape, we curled each section using the Kristin Ess 2” Soft Bend Curling Iron, wrapping the hair around the barrel and setting each curl with TRESemmé Workable Hairspray.

To enhance fullness, we incorporated the Luxy Hair Chestnut Brown and Natural Blonde Balayage extensions, clipping them into three sections, at the nape, mid-length, and crown.

Once everything was curled and set, we used the Kristin Ess Large Paddle Brush to brush out the waves, creating a seamless soft finish. We then applied the TRESemmé Dry Texturizing Spray for a bit of added texture.

To refine the final shape, we used Kristin Ess French Clips to sculpt the waves into place, then locked in the style with a combination of TRESemmé Lacquer Shine Spray and TRESemmé Signature Hair Fragrance for a polished, long-lasting finish.”

When it came to the singer/dancer’s nails, manicurist Analysse Hernandez created a custom brown jelly nude manicure for her, which Hernandez described as “skin tone inspired” and indeed it was almost impossible for us to distinguish where her hand ended and where her nails began, a testament to how seamless everything was.

McRae was styled by the great Brett Alan Nelson, who is very well versed in styling people who have spectacular performances as the cornerstone of their identity, people who want to look good but who also desire practicality from what they wear.

You can see it in the way he dresses Doja Cat, Lalisa Manobal or Karol G: powerful women who are in full control of their bodies and what they want.

It’s the same for Tate McRae, and she looks incredibly good while she’s at it.
