We are going down a rabbit hole lately and the MET Gala is our main focus, couldn’t you tell? Also, one of the specifics of today’s article was the sustainability aspect, which we try to highlight whenever possibile.

That being said, here is Shawn Mendes attending last year’s MET Ball with a beloved American fashion designer.

For the Gala, Shawn ‘s wore a consciously crafted custom Tommy Hilfiger jewel-toned peacoat with gold charmeuse lining and a woolen tuxedo. The look was created using liability fabrics, trimmings and vintage deadstock fabrics.

According to the brand’s Senior Vice President of Product Concept and the People’s Place Program Randolph Cousin, the peacoat was inspired by a 1950s shoot of James Dean and Tommy Hilfiger‘s heritage color blocking. There was also a nod to the Gilded Age thanks to the custom navy double-breasted, single-button fine wool high neck tuxedo with gold details that Mendes wore underneath it.

He accessorized the look with black vintage boots, a custom made Elliot Gaskin Green Sapphire ombré pattern ring and a 4mm Beveled Rock Band stacked together on his left middle finger. The rings were made using ethically sourced gemstones and handmade upcycled gold. The brand only uses these kinds of materials to help reduce the environmental impact of gold mining.

Shawn also wore other fine pieces by the brand Broken English Jewelry.

As always, his grooming was courtesy of Anna Bernabe. The upper part of his hair was voluminous and little touches of caramel highlights through his hair made it look less stern and harmonious. The shapes and proportions were just perfect–but we already knew it, Bernabe would never go for something less than flawless.

Mendes‘ nails were one of the most interesting aspects of this look, thanks to the expertise of manicurist Betina Goldstein. This time she created matte navy nails, painting the Tommy Hilfiger flag by hand on his left ring finger, sprinkling gold clusters on each nail to go along with his jewelry.

The pro was also kind enough to share with her Instagram followers several details regarding the products she used, the hand-care and the tools. Here they are (slightly edited for clarity):

What’s even funnier is that internet sensation Emma Chamberlain and Shawn talked about their respective nails on the red carpet and Goldstein was the artist behind both looks–talk about versatility!

To conclude, Shawn Mendes and stylist Tiffany Briseno are a winning duo. She has been a part of his style evolution through the years and has seen him grow professionally and stylistically. This ensemble from 2022 was clearly one of his best accomplishments as an artist and as a person.

Tommy Hilfiger is his brand, there is no doubt. The collaboration is genuine and unfussy.
