I madly fell in love with Phoebe Dynevor‘s outfit for this year’s MET Gala and I was truly determined to find out more about it because I thought it honored the theme and reflected the actress’ personality in a very unique way.
Here is what I discovered.
Phoebe Dynevor at MET Gala 2024
First of all, it was Victoria Beckham‘s first ever custom MET Gala gown, which was a huge milestone for her, and then that the dress was “hand-crafted from archival lace, and embellished with over 300 lace appliqué flowers, hand-cut and hand-sewn onto a tulle base” (according to the creative director herself).
The gown not only was a nod to this year’s MET Gala theme, but archival lace was used, each flower was dyed to a “faded rose” and its color was intended to match the “Bridgerton” actress’ skin tone; this was also a departure from her usual black or white ensembles.
According to the brand, the commitment to the vision went even further, which tells us a lot about how intentional was the choice of this specific label: “At once fragile and delicate, yet with a strong, statement silhouette, the ethereal romantic gown speaks to the brand’s signature of juxtaposing and balancing the masculine and the feminine, while reflecting the actress as an individual—a classic English rose and a fearless actress with immense strength of character.”
Pretty much what I personally noticed once I saw Phoebe strutting on the red carpet.
In an interview for British Vogue, Beckham explained the choice of materials, how it fit the theme and how Dynevor served as a sort of muse: “We decided to use vintage lace from our archives, as there was something quite romantic about reviving it and bringing it back to life–much like a sleeping beauty. [Phoebe is] such a beautiful, talented young woman and I really wanted to design the gown with her in mind–to be almost like an extension of her. We even hand-dyed the flowers to match her skin.”
Moreover, the incredible outfit was paired with powder pink satin Paris Texas LIZ lace up sandals, a cream satin Victoria Beckham Frame Flower Minaudiere in Chamomile with a bespoke brass frame and flower clasp, Bucherer Masterpiece Earrings with various cut diamonds, a Bucherer Classic Ring with Pear Cut Diamonds on her right middle finger and a Bucherer Classic Bracelet with various cut diamonds on her left wrist.
Phoebe‘s makeup was courtesy of Sofia Schwarzkopf-Tilbury, who made sure to create a harmony between the dress and the glam. The pro kept things airy by applying a white-ish silver-y glittery eyeshadow on the inner corners, a reddish blush on the apples of the cheeks and finished off with rosebud stained lips.
All products used were of course from Charlotte Tilbury‘s skincare and makeup lines and we’ll list them here in case you’d like to replicate the look (slightly edited for clarity, courtesy of the artist and the brand):

The “Fair Play” actress’ hairstyle was very simple an classy, indeed David von Cannon opted for an effortless knotted updo, which let her back bare. To achieve it, he used the Hot Tools Pro Artist Heat Protection Collection to protect the hair from heat and bring out the shine, plus the 24K Gold Extended Barrel Curling Iron.
I need you to pay closer attention to Phoebe‘s nails, because the attention to detail was truly spot on.
Nail artist Mo Qin wanted to keep things chic and classic but with a twist, that’s why she went for a soft reverse French manicure by using Kiss Products. Keep in mind that the nails were pre-polished and pre-sculpted so that they would be more long lasting.
Here is a little how-to tutorial, courtesy of the brand that was kind enough to share it with its Instagram followers:
“- Mo first prepped the nails using the manicure stick and file, included in the Salon X-tend LED Soft Gel System Starter Kit, then cleaned, filed, and buffed the nails. She then wiped the nails clean with the included Prep Pad.
– She pre-selected Phoebe’s nail sizes in Salon X-tend style “Gloria” to ensure a proper fit then applied the gel adhesive inside the numbered circle of each nail ensuring the perfect amount of adhesive for optimal results.
– The nails were then flash cured under the LED light for 5-7 seconds, she removed any excess gel adhesive, and finish cured for 1 minute.
– Mo customized the look to complement Phoebe’s style for the night, creating a chic & classic reverse French manicure. The sheer shade provided the ideal base for nail art, adding a soft white half moon design to the base of the nail.”
Dynevor was styled by Nicky Yates, who has always been keen on portraying the actress’ need for practicality and ease when it comes to clothes.
You’ll never see the redhead in constrictive or too elaborate ensembles, but you’ll surely see her wearing distinct ones that prioritize getting the job done without much fuss.
There’s a kind of nonchalance about her attitude and I appreciate her effort to go for something out of her comfort zone this time, respectfully reinterpreting the theme of the Gala, without stripping herself or the brand of their common values and specificities.
