I was introduced to “The Last of Us” game by my best friend who has been playing it non-stop through the pandemic (how fitting in retrospect) so I was very well informed about the casting and the overall vibe of it.
As soon as we knew that there was going to be a series adaptation, there was happiness as well as worries in the air, because the game was so good that you fear someone is going to butcher it.
From my part, I was very interested in the style choices of the cast for the possible press tour, especially since the ensemble is diverse and walking into the fashion environment with different sensibilities.
That being said, here is what Pedro wore to the season two premiere in Los Angeles.
Pascal donned a Saint Laurent checked peak lapel blazer, black pants and long leather Saint Laurent boots with a blue turtleneck with a wide collar underneath, stemming from the Fall 2025 Menswear collection.
As a powerful accessory, the Chilean-American actor opted for a pair of sunglasses that were a custom version of the Jarvis frame by Linda Farrow.
As always, the actor’s grooming was courtesy of Courtney Ullrich (friendly nicknamed Coco) who went for a just-out-of-the-shower wet look, but the kind that goes perfectly with the sultriness and sexiness that his Saint Laurent ensemble exuded.
It wouldn’t be a true Julie Ragolia styling without a message lying underneath.
While scrolling through behind-the-scenes photos and inspirations for Pedro‘s press looks on her Instagram, I noticed that she shared the photo of Pippa Garner, who died this past December.
She was an American conceptual artist and Vietnam veteran who for the past 50 years has been satirizing US consumer habits with designs that are not always entirely useful.
She appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson wearing her infamous Half-Suit in 1982, shortly before she began her gender transition.
According to an article by The New York Times Style Magazine: “In the mid-1980s, Garner obtained black-market estrogen with help from trans sex workers she met on Hollywood Boulevard, and in 1991 underwent top surgery, though she continued living as a man for two more years.”
In a way, her resistance to the gender binary was very ahead of its time and even though today we have new labels and new ways to address issues that are permeating the political landscape in the US and in the world, it’s truly commendable to see a beloved actor channel his support for meaningful causes, in support of the trans community, in such a subtle but honorable way (you may not know that his sister is part of the community too).
I saw the comments online and I think too many people have a very restricted idea of what it means to be a man dipping his toes into the fashion world, while also finding collaborators who have a very grounded understanding of what you are willing to convey, even though you look exactly like the most masculine version of who a man can be.
I praise Julie Ragolia and I thank her for not treating fashion like a shallow black suit with an overblown price tag and for teaching us that the field can encompass way more than the eye can see.
