My mind is spinning lately and there is one thing that can serve as a remedy for it for me: drawing connections between past and present, an act of discovery that can truly make us think about a time when things start to appear way better than they are now (even though I never believed in such a myth).
I am personally not attached to my past (although intrinsically I am very much influenced by it), I like looking forward, but there is an uneasiness right now that I can’t seem to shake off, which in return makes me feel hopeless and sad.
I checked my archive and I found an outfit that could help ease the burden that I have on my shoulders right now and it was the one that Nicole Kidman wore to the Los Angeles premiere of her latest project “Babygirl“.
During my research I found out on Grazia Malaysia that the custom floral Balenciaga long sleeveless gown that the actress wore for the occasion was a modern version of a design from the Maison’s archives, specifically “a grand coat crafted in 1964 […] with 24 artisans dedicating 2850 hours to the overhaul” (in the picture above you can see Chilean actress and model Doris Kleiner wearing the original design, photographed by Bert Stern).

Many of her accessories were worthy of attention, starting from a simple pair of black Balenciaga pointy shoes, going on with a pair of Hassanzadeh earrings, a diamond ring on her right index finger, another one on her left index finger and finishing off strong with an incredible vintage Omega Art Nouveau wristwatch from 1920. The timepiece featured a platinum case set with 24 brilliant-cut diamonds, along with an arabesque decoration from the period–it is was worn on a very thin black fabric bracelet.
Let’s also pay attention to Kidman‘s makeup which was courtesy of Kate Synnott.
In an interview for Byrdie, the pro gave exclusive insights into her inspiration and tricks to achieve the best possible result to show off on the red carpet.
“The inspiration for Nicole’s makeup was ‘English Rose.’ I love this feminine, classic, English beauty style of makeup. We kept her skin fresh, dewy, and radiant, with a rosy finish on the cheeks and lips.
My main trick for Nicole is not to use any heavy products for her base as her skin is so incredible. I want her natural skin glow to show through the makeup.”

Nicole‘s hair was styled by Adir Abergel in a soft sleek low ponytail, which added a layer of simplicity to an outfit that stood on its own. Of course the products he used were from the Virtue Labs haircare line.
The “Expats” actress was styled by Jason Bolden, a frequent collaborator who has been able to push Kidman‘s boundaries on the red carpet, which I think is also due to her Balenciaga ambassadorship.
Balenciaga is a complex brand and Nicole is a very multifaceted actress who’s always looking for ways to express her vision of the world, femininity, desire, despair and grief (especially after her mother has lately passed away).
I think that the Spanish luxury fashion house can keep up with Kidman‘s ever-evolving appetite for newness, proving that women don’t have an expiration date anymore.
