Ncuti Gatwa at “Barbie” Premiere – London

On the heels of “Barbie“‘s wins at the Golden Globes, I thought it might be a good idea to revisit the movie’s London premiere and the outfit worn by one of its characters: the lovely Ncuti Gatwa.

Whenever I look at him, I am filled with joy, he has that bubbly personality that can put a smile on your face in a matter of minutes and sometimes–I confess–I do need someone to make me feel this way.

That’s why it’s a huge pleasure for me to bring you back to last July, when Gatwa donned a custom white Valentino ensemble with a white cape, combined with glitzy grey sequined shorts and black leather Valentino Garavani Rockstud lace-up platform shoes with an oval toe.

He accessorized everything with a white Maison Michel Henrietta fedora hat and Tiffany & Co. jewelry–apparently the hat was a nod to Ryan Gosling‘s Ken and the Black actor’s promotional poster’s photo.

The Tiffany & Co. pieces he wore on the red carpet were a Smile diamond earring from the Tiffany T collection on his left ear, a Small Wrap Necklace from the Tiffany HardWear collection in sterling silver, a True Narrow diamond ring from the Tiffany T collection on his left middle finger, a Diamond Wire band ring from the same collection on his right ring finger and a Tiffany T True ring in 18k white gold on his right thumb.

When it came to the makeup, Ncuti‘s skin looked as supple and luminous as ever, this was thanks to the wonderful artistry of groomer and hairstylist Carlos Ferraz who used Charlotte Tilbury makeup and skincare products on his face.

It is obvious that the focus was on hydration and luminosity, making the actor’s skin shine bright for the cameras. The little foundation Ferraz used definitely had the purpose of evening out his skin tone, the biggest part of the job was carried out by his skincare regimen.

His hair and barbering was courtesy of Christian Okonta, a friend of the actor. He has also worked on actor Archie Madekwe who many of you have come to know thanks to the movie “Saltburn“.

What we can’t forget is that Ncuti was styled by Felicity Kay, one of the professionals who has really put her name on the map lately thanks to her work with Paul Mescal and Kit Connor among others.

I liked the lightheartedness of this outfit, its freshness and its playful nature.

Also, Maison Valentino has a great record of collaborations with Black artists and I find their willingness–as a heritage brand–to push the envelope and custom create dresses that transcend social norms, simply admirable. It’s a brand that doesn’t want to be sit still and stagnant, it evolves and it grows with its audience and very often it’s not a given.

Kudos to Felicity Kay for not being afraid of risking it all to make her client look so deliciously good.
