Here is what Matt Smith wore to the “House of the Dragon” Season 2 Premiere in NY.
Stylist: Rose Forde assisted by Aliyah
Outfit: custom Paul Smith
Groomer: Kumi Craig
Shoes: Paul Smith
Watch: Cartier
According to today’s schedule, we are going to analyze the ensemble Matt Smith chose to wear for the New York premiere of the second season of the HBO series “House of the Dragon” and the reasoning behind it.
For the occasion, Smith donned a full custom Paul Smith look featuring a black shawl lapel suit jacket with a white pocket square, paired with matching cummerbund pants probably inspired by a design from the Fall 2024 Menswear collection.

Underneath the blazer, the actor also wore a light blue long sleeve shirt with a white monochrome tie that we assume was inspired by another design from the Spring 2024 Menswear collection.
To accessorize the fit, he seemed to be wearing a pair of black leather Paul Smith ‘Cedric‘ Chelsea boots and presumably a Cartier watch that we were not able to identify because it was covered by his sleeves in every shot available.

Apparently, for this outing, Matt‘s stylist Rose Forde was inspired by the colors of Elvis‘ costume in “The Trouble with Girls” movie from 1969, and the structure of the jacket Presley was wearing while out and about in Los Angeles after concluding another one of his movie projects: “King Creole“.
His grooming by Kumi Craig pretty much followed the same theme, giving off a villain-esque vibe that he masterfully portrays in the series.
Rose Forde is one of my favorite stylists, because she always has a vision and a story to tell through clothes.
She gives us the chance to explore the past thanks to her references and she knows how to convey emotions especially when she works with people as multifaceted as Emma D’Arcy or Jessie Buckley.
When it comes to menswear, she tailors her approach in a different way, but always pairing things beautifully and harmoniously–something she did with Matt here, in an ode to different times.

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO.
A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season.
Based on parts of Martin‘s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.
In the series, Matt Smith stars as Daemon Targaryen, prince of the Targaryen dynasty, and a claimant consort of Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Emma D’Arcy).
