Riverdale actress (and now poet) Lili Reinhart looked like an angel at the 2018’s MET Gala. Not shocking since she’s always been keen on being natural, enhancing what she has rather than covering it. A fervent advocate for body acceptance, looked nothing short of amazing for her Gala debut.

Her wonderful custom H&M dress was made of silver chrome silk featuring a corset made of many layers of different metallic chains.

Her priority was to feel like herself–her clothes for such events need to empower her, making her feel beautiful or badass (for her interview with H&M read here).

In an interview for W MagazineReinhart explained how she ended up choosing it: “They e-mailed me options, and one was sleeveless and strapless and one had very beautiful, long billowing sleeves, and I was immediately drawn to that, because I feel like it really fit the theme. It’s a silver dress and I’ve never really worn silver. It was something that I never would have picked for myself, and it forced me out of my comfort zone.”

In another one for Teen VogueLili also talked about her fears: “I was nervous that the sketch wouldn’t reflect my personal style or that I wouldn’t respond well to it because I’m usually modest and simple with my fashion sense, but I was very happy with it”.

And specifically, the fear of falling: “My second fitting was where I got to see the actual shape and fabric of the dress as it would be on the day of the Met. It felt pretty surreal. I kept saying how gorgeous it was over and over again. I practiced walking up and down a flight of stairs and it made me nervous to walk on the actual steps.”

This time, Glamour.com was even able to speak with Ann-Sofie Johansson, the brand’s creative advisor, about the making of the look: “What’s remarkable about Reinhart‘s look—a silver dress inspired by medieval armor—is the clash between that softness in the sleeves and skirt—that kind of glossy, ethereal, cloud feeling, very light and airy—[and] the hardness of the bustier.

Of all the pieces H&M worked on for the 2018 Met GalaReinhart‘s was the [hardest] to crack, because we weren’t sure how to make the bustier from the beginning, how to actualize that. It’s molded with this boning, [into] like a corset, that might look easy, but [is] actually very, very constructed to be able to hold a shape properly.”

The look was paired with marvelous Featherstone Design platinum, diamond and Tahitian pearl Luna earrings.

Manicurist Stephanie Stone used an Essie nail polish in the shade Handmade of Honor from the Gel Couture Collection by Reem Acra (a blush metallic nail polish, tinted with a light rose) as the base and she then used gold leaves to create the flecks on the nails.
