When the people behind-the-scenes carve out a career of their own, it’s always amazing to witness.

Image Architect Law Roach undoubtedly started from being a hustler to a renowned stylist, and now that he has retired from the profession, he can enjoy his newfound fame.

Some of the perks of this decision? He gets to walk on red carpets that he was used to observe from afar. One of the latest ones was that of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

For this year’s award show, Law wore a beige Luar ensemble from the Spring 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection complete with python-print pointy boots.

The outfit consisted of a knee length peak lapel jacket, white men’s shirt and a muted light pink tie. The look was paired with Givenchy GV 7173/S khaki/brown beige ombré sunglasses and a brown Opening Ceremony x Luar small Ana tote bag.

He mixed and matched gold and silver rings, plus a gold watch.

Roach‘s makeup was courtesy of Theo Turner, one of his frequent collaborators. Turner used Dr. Barbara Sturm products to prep his skin and created a flawless base using Law‘s trusted brand Lancôme.

For his hair, the stylist went fiery and bold, opting for a voluminous long do styled in a middle part by Tai Simon.

The outfit was a polarizing one, indeed many people did not like it. Personally I applaud the shock factor when it comes to the red carpet, because I am truly tired of seeing the same safe black blazers dancing in front of my eyes time and time again.

Also, when we look at the bigger picture I see a friend of a talented Dominican-born designer who’s showing up for him, and rightfully so since Luar was nominated in two categories: American Womenswear Designer of the Year and American Accessory Designer of the Year.

It’s always nice to see a friendly face cheering for you in the crowd, especially when there’s still very little acknowledgment and consideration for designers who don’t tick–or fit into–certain boxes.
