I do inject into myself a pretty hefty amount of red carpet coverage every week, which is obvious seen the nature of what I do.
This simple fact gives me the chance to compare clothes that people wear on different occasions, and the explicit or implicit reasons why they do it.
You wouldn’t be surprised to know that some catch my attention and some don’t, even though I am aware of the commercial implications involved in the process.
Overall, this doesn’t deter me and I am willing to sing the praises of an outfit when I see that there is care and thought behind it like when I recently witnessed Lalisa Manobal attending the Los Angeles premiere of the third season of the series “The White Lotus“.
Lalisa indeed stunned in a custom Miss Sohee lotus flower-inspired silk chiffon gown, featuring mother-of-pearl effect embroidery adorned with encrusted crystals and pearls, showcasing a stunning ombré transition from brilliant white to yellow.
Funnily enough, Lalisa‘s stylist wrote on her instagram that “pearl” translates to “mook” in Thai and for those who don’t know it, that’s exactly the name of the character the singer/rapper portrays in the series.
As I was saying, there is a hidden meaning behind the choice of this specific gown and when I get to the root of it, my satisfaction grows tenfold.
Manobal accessorized the look with a pair of yellow diamond stud earrings, (what seemed to be, we are unsure about the specific model) a Bulgari Fiorever ring in white gold and diamonds on her right middle finger, plus a pair of pointy encrusted pumps that we were not able to identify.
The Thai entertainer also carried with her a majestic “Light of Lotus No.001” bespoke art piece designed by the brand Sarran, helmed by the visionary artist Sarran Youkongdee.
According to a very poetic press release, the masterpiece was “inspired by the ethereal beauty of dawn–the first glimmers of light dancing on tranquil waters and a pristine white Lotus blossoming with the morning breeze–the artwork embodies fresh starts, daily journeys, and the golden embrace of a new sunrise.”
But let’s talk about makeup: I am deeply in love with the work her MUA Maeng Ssaem did on her.
White pearlescent eyeshadow applied on the inner corners of the eyes, a firm black eyeliner trait to frame the eyes and the precision with which Ssaem worked on the lower lash line is nothing short of remarkable. Everything was done to make the eyes appear bigger and the technique fascinates me to no end.
Her hair was styled in a dreamy half-up half-down chignon in the shape of a rose, with two strands of hair braided to mesh with her soft waves underneath.
Lalisa‘s gold and milky white ombré nails were courtesy of Juan Alvear, someone who spoils us with little masterpieces every time he touches a celebrity’s hand. I discovered him a few years ago and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Alvear makes sure that nails–a part of the getting ready process that is often overlooked–can take center stage again by complementing and elevating looks, taking space, daring you not to look away.
The pro used Aprés products to achieve the desired result.
The Thai beauty was styled by Nan Nista Permpoon who is very theatrical and dramatic in her style of dressing. There is an editorial sensibility to what she does and I personally appreciate it very much.
I think she is the perfect choice for a performer because it’s a job that requires you to be ahead of trends all the time and you either live and breathe fashion or you wouldn’t be able to have such a hardworking woman as a client.
Nan Nista Permpoon definitely knows what’s up and she has the guts to push ahead in an incredibly competitive and breakneck industry.
