Juan Alvear‘s nail art is part beauty movement, part performance piece.
An amalgamation of the grotesque, the elegant and the self-effacing, a push and pull that is as arresting as it is disconcerting.
Juan Alvear was born in New York City and currently lives and works between LA & NYC.
He graduated from Cooper Union with a degree in Fine Art.
Alvear is an interdisciplinary artist who straddles the adjacent and often separate realms of fine art, design, and beauty by crafting otherworldly, wearable adornments and sculptural objects.
His work, including his instantly recognizable nail art, implies an ancient origin while appearing from an alternate reality.
He has recently been featured in the Vogue World 100, Paper Magazine 100, and numerous other publications.
The New Yorker has worked his magic on the digits of performers like avant-garde Venezuelan artist Arca, βsugar-trapβ rapper Rico Nasty, and flamenco pop superstar RosalΓa.
He’s also a favorite of designer Collina Strada and models like Jazzelle Zanaughtti.
The common thread tying together his clients: a commitment to the innovative, the unexpected, and sometimes, the weird.
Other notable clients are Julia Fox, Charli XCX, Lourdes Leon, Anok Yai, Symone and Kim Petras.
