Today I was in the mood to write about someone who’s always willing to subvert the status quo while looking extremely fine and Josh O’Connor attending this year’s Cannes Film Festival came to mind.

For the event, O’Connor wore a Prada brown wool jacket with a light blue poplin shirt, black faille tie, poplin floral pin, grey silk mohair trousers and black brushed leather loafers.

He also accessorized the look with a pair of Prada sunglasses with black frames and burnt orange lenses.

As many of you may know, Cannes’ dress code is quite strict, hence why I find it extremely hard to write about menswear ensembles that are worthy of attention, but I also know that where there is stylist Harry Lambert there is fun and unconventionality, so I dug a bit deeper and I was able to find a Vogue article in which the pro explained how the look came to be, especially when talking about the color palette he selected.

“They all felt like extremely Prada colors—they were wrong but right, yet they all go together. There was something that felt fresh and easy about it.”

In another paragraph, Lambert also echoed my worries about how difficult it could be to style a man for this specific festival: “With Cannes menswear, there’s always quite a bit of tuxedos and black bow ties. It’s nice to do the red carpet in a way that isn’t so on-the-nose of a traditional men’s look. […]

What I love about Josh is he does want to dress up. He loves fashion in his own way; he wants to have fun and is willing to try things. We just wanted something very easy, very him, and very joyful and chic.”

The actor’s grooming was courtesy of the lovely Petra Sellge who often accompanies him during his press tours, probably a calming presence for such a shy and sweet man who probably finds comfort in a glam team made out of friends.

I love the fact that Josh has found his own fashion path and his style is now recognizable from afar and is truly unique to him.
