Jodie Turner-Smith is pretty new to my imaginary inventory of Black excellence.

What I do remember is her pregnancy glow while walking on the red carpet of the 2019’s BAFTAs in that amazing yellow Gucci gown and how I was instantly taken in by her beauty.

From that moment on, I promised myself I would have talked about her here.

For this time, let’s focus on her outfit for the Governors Awards 2019, held at The Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center on October 27, 2019 in Hollywood, California.

The Black beauty wore an emerald Balmain jumpsuit with draped sleeves from the Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection, paired with black and gold Nappa leather Malone Souliers square open-toe Laney mules with a stiletto heel.

She opted for Cartier jewelry, the striking piece was a Cactus de Cartier necklace in 18K yellow gold, emeralds, set with 204 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 8.00 carats–several other important pieces can be spotted on her fingers and right wrist.

Her makeup artist Allan Avendaño used a Limited Edition Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment from the Studio 54 Collection in the shade Funkytown for that very distinctive pout.

So refreshing to read in a CR Fashion Book interview that Avendaño was very happy to be able to paint a different kind of skin tone and the different perks it has: “Most recently, I was working with Jodie Turner-Smith for Queen and Slim press. She’s such an incredible creature. The best part is how rich her skin tone was. It really allowed me to do things that necessarily wouldn’t have the same sort of payoff on lighter skin tones. In particular, when I did her for the Governors Awards back in October. We did a simple rose gold eye. She was wearing this beautiful emerald green Balmain look, and being able to pair it strongly with a bold orange lip on top of her skin tone being so deep was really something beautiful.”

Her manicurist Merrick Fisher used a Chanel nail polish in the shade ‘New Dawn‘ to paint her nails.

Recently, you will be able to see her in Queen & Slim, Without Remorse in April and in the prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin, where Turner-Smith will play a warrior named Éile.
