Model and activist Joan Smalls attended the Extreme Beauty: Vogue Italia Cocktail Party during the Milan Fashion Week at Palazzo Serbelloni in September 2019.
She wore aΒ Christian CowanΒ pink sparkly one-shouldered dressΒ from the Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection embellished with amethyst crystals byΒ Preciosa Crystals. On her feet, silver heels with some beadings on the front strip.
The party was organized by stylist Ibrahim Kamara. He wanted the party to feel like a screenplay and for the guests to feel as if they were watching a movie. The story was a mix of his African origins, his English education and his passion for the Roman Empire. That was his interpretation of Extreme Beauty: a clash of different cultures, which together can create a new idea of beauty.
The party celebrated a contemporary idea of beautyβamong the guests: Maurizio Cattelan, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Amber Valletta, Anna Cleveland, Cindy Bruna, Jasmin Sanders; photographers Ellen Von Unwerth and SΓΈlve SundsbΓΈ; designers Jeremy Scott, Alberta Ferretti, Peter Dundas, NicolΓ² Beretta of Giannico, Roberto Cavalli, Cesare and Arianna Casadei.
Extreme Beautyβthe theme of the nightβwas declined through outfits, exhibitions, costumes for the artists and masks for the guests, each one of them ideated by Kamara.
A regular contributor of Vogue Italia, he signed his first cover in March 2019.
For the September 2019 issue, he contributed to one of the two covers, shot by Paolo Roversi. Apart from dressing model Adut Akech, he wore the same outfit as her.
