I wanted to celebrate Pierpaolo Piccioli‘s departure from Maison Valentino in my own way and I thought that one of the most striking choices would have been to honor the color that became a symbol of the brand, after the infamous red.
Since we are diving deep into the annual events that shape the fashion industry and one of the most pivotal is the MET Gala, I chose beloved actress Jenna Ortega and her outfit for the 2022 edition.
Ortega was dressed in a custom Valentino all-over embroidered tunic shirt with flower applications in the Valentino Pink PP collection hue, paired with neon pink PP Tights, fuchsia Le Silla Uma platform ankle pumps and a Valentino Pink PP Roman Stud mini bag.
According to a press release by Berger.com.mx, she accessorized her ensemble with Chopard earrings, a Chopard ring from the Haute Joaillerie collection in 18k white fairmined certified rose gold and white gold featuring pink diamonds and diamonds on her right index finger, a Chopard ring from the Precious Lace collection in 18k white gold with diamonds on her left middle finger and a Chopard Happy Butterfly collection diamond ring in 18k white gold on her right ring finger.
Although striking, the outfit felt light and dreamy, very romantic and different from Jenna‘s usual dark ensembles.
I particularly appreciated the makeup that celebrity MUA Allan Avendaño concocted for her: a faint whisper of fuchsia eyeshadow applied on the outer corners of the eyes and a clever placement of individual false lashes–strategic was the one upside-down on the lower lash line. A glittery eyeshadow was the star of the show on the lids, while a fuchsia lipstick and gloss finished-off the look.
The “Finestkind” actress’ hair was styled by David Stanwell in long beachy waves, which he achieved by adding some 20″ clip-in Irresistible Me hair extensions in #1b Natural Black.
He also sprinkled fuchsia metal flowers throughout her hair, a creation by Laurel DeWitt.
Ortega‘s manicure was courtesy of Thuy Nguyen, who created for her see-through pink and fuchsia chrome claw nails on which she added a little Swarovski crystal.
The “Wednesday” actress and stylist Enrique Melendez have been collaborating for several years and he was (deservedly) recently recognized for his work as one of Hollywood’s Top 25 Stylists by The Hollywood Reporter.
He usually leans into the darker side of the characters she portrays, inhabiting a fictional gothic world, but he also sometimes steps into the light by expressing melancholia but with its own twist, and that’s what I like about their work. When Jenna wears something out of her comfort zone, it is never too girly or gimmicky, it has a sensitive subtext, things are never as simple as they seem.
In the end, this is what catches my attention, things have to tickle my brain in order for me to find them interesting, and that’s what this powerful duo does, in my opinion.
