We are gearing up for this week’s Golden Globes, so we are revisiting one of the outfits worn for the occasion by one of last year’s most beloved actresses: Jenna Ortega.
In a sea of intricate dresses that can easily catch attention, we also need to talk about simpler ones that can make us feel as light as a feather and Jenna‘s gown is a fitting example (see what I did here?)
For the award show, Ortega donned a Gucci nude/pinkish ruffled dress from the Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear ‘Twinsburg‘ collection, paired with silver mirrored Jimmy Choo Max 150 ankle sandals with open toe.
In an interview for Vogue, the American actress stated that wearing a softer ensemble was a conscious choice, to sort of move on from colors we have already seen her in on the red carpet before: “What drew me to this look the most, is it felt like enough of a departure from a lot of the darker looks I’ve been wearing lately.”
“I’ve never worn anything like it before. I naturally gravitate towards earth tones, so it’s a great shade, and the metallic rings piecing the dress together kept it interesting. The dress was also very light and comfortable, which excited me because this sort of thing is always so long and awkward.”
Even though she wore a lot of jewelry pieces, each one of them was carefully selected and didn’t make the look feel too heavy.
She wore a Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger ‘Lynn‘ diamond necklace in platinum and 18k yellow gold, a T1 necklace in 18k white gold with baguette and round diamonds stacked with an Elsa Peretti Snake Belt necklace in sterling silver.
To adorn her ears, fingers and wrists she opted for a pair of Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Flame Ear Clips in 18k gold and platinum, a Schlumberger ‘Lynn‘ bracelet on her left wrist, a Schlumberger ‘Lynn‘ ring on her right middle finger, a Schlumberger ring on her left index finger, a Schlumberger Rope Three-Row X ring on her right thumb and what seemed to be a yellow gold Vine Ring from the Tiffany Victoria collection on her left ring finger among others.
The accessories and the fake nails were very intentional too: “The Tiffany jewelry I was wearing was really complementary to the look, so that—combined with the false nails I never wear—made me feel like talking with my hands a bit more than usual”.
According to the same aforementioned Vogue interview, the makeup was Sophia Loren-inspired, something she had never done before, and it was courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo.
There was a heavy focus on her upper and lower lash line flick, accentuated by a trait of white pencil in the waterline and false lashes for added drama; peachy lips and matching blush sealed the deal.
David Stanwell styled her hair in a wolf cut, and in an interview for PopSugar UK, he explained how it came about: “We had a few mood ideas with hair. I leaned towards an effortless style with a little nod to ’90s fashion by having the hair lifted a little more towards the front while keeping it bouncy and movable and not too rigid.”
“We were down for the bottom to be flicked out as well—I just wanted to play with the shapes of the haircut that worked best for the whole look—’less is more’ was very much what I had in mind.”
Here is what you need to achieve it, courtesy of the online publication:
– Fekkai Root Lift Spray on damp hair;
– a small amount of the Fekkai Super Strength+ Protein Power Bond Mist;
– after blow-drying it with a round brush and letting it set with velcro rollers,
spray everything using the Fekkai Flexi-Hold Hairspray.
The “Finestkind” actress’ oval shaped nails were painted with a matching dark pink hue and decorated with two vertical white and glittery gold sinuous lines. A different look from what we are used to see from her, but very well explicatory of the attention to detail of manicurist Thuy Nguyen. All the colors used remind us of her jewelry and her dress and give a further touch of class to the look.
As for her styling, Jenna has a synergic relationship with her stylist Enrique Melendez who I discovered years ago. On this particular occasion I liked the “stepping out of character” by opting for something more mature but at the same time comfortable for her. She is a woman who is growing in front of our eyes, and sometimes such actors tend to dare too much, looking like nothing their age.
For the Globes, Jenna looked gracious and classy. She and Melendez stroke the right balance between age appropriate and refined without being too strict about it.
