Today’s article revolves around a dress I fell in love with as soon as I saw it on the runway and that I am so glad I’m able to present to you on this gloomy Thursday–kinda appropriate for the occasion.

Remember the incredible dress Jenna Ortega wore to this year’s Emmy’s a few days ago? Well, that one.

For the event, Ortega donned a Givenchy broken chandelier jewelry top with a black crepe cady skirt from the Fall-Winter 2025 collection by Sarah Burton, paired with black Christian Louboutin Rosalie Alta platform sandals with a high stiletto heel.

She complemented her ensemble with a pair of Pomellato Nudo Toi Et Moi earrings featuring a London blue topaz with diamonds on one side and a white topaz with diamonds on the other, two Nudo rings in rose gold (one with prasiolite and one with diamonds) on her left middle finger and right index finger, paired with a Nudo bracelet in rose gold set with two prasiolites and diamonds on her left wrist.

If you are a cinema lover and eagle-eyed observer, you’ll surely see the reference to Isabella Rossellini‘s character in “Death Becomes Her” from 1992.

I remember the first time I watched it and how I was captured by such a magnificent dress.

The actress’ makeup was dark and grungy, a clear sign that French MUA Mélanie Inglessis was probably the one holding the makeup brush.

For Jenna’s Emmy’s look, she indeed went for darker eyes with a darker lip. On her Instagram, Inglessis wrote: “I wanted a pop of color showing on the eyes to compliment the jeweled top and baby blue was it!”

The skin was kept dewy and healthy, with freckles showing.

When it came to the hair, César DeLeon Ramírez styled the “Scream” actress’ hair in a low bun with little wavy tendrils caressing her face.

Here is how he further described the styling process and what he used to achieve it:

“The idea was for the hair to feel effortless but still elevated. The low bun is textured with a bit of grit, while soft face-framing strands gave it a mysterious, undone edge.

I only used my must-have L’Oréal AirLight Pro Blowdryer to get it there which minimized the use of hot-tools.”

Of course the inspiration for the hairdo was the gem-studded top and according to Allure, “Ramirez envisioned a hairstyle that captured an enigmatic energy–an aesthetic that perfectly reflects Ortega‘s signature edge”.

He created volume and texture with just his hands.

“The result is an effortlessly chic low knot bun, with loose, face-framing strands that add an air of mystery to the look”.

To match the statement dress, nail artist Thuy Nguyen created a simple pinkish short manicure for Jenna, using a CND PlexiGel Builder in ‘Spiced Taffy‘ and a ‘Pearl Chrome‘ Effect Pigment by Ocean Nail Supply.

As always, the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” actress was styled by Enrique Melendez, whose work I can’t praise enough.

I love Melendez‘s ability to create a narrative around each dress he chooses for every step of a press tour, down to the last detail, while I also would like to thank him for his will to mention every person involved in the getting ready process, leaving no one behind.

Every time Jenna steps on an important red carpet I know that in due time I’ll receive a well deserved fashion lesson (because he often doesn’t post details about an event/appearance in real time but after a while) and that makes me a better person and I truly feel it.

For someone who engages in slow journalism like me, Enrique is a heaven-sent stylist.
