To close this week, I wanted to bring back some levity by writing about an outfit that gave me exactly that feeling by admiring it, and I hope you’ll be delighted to know more about it, since we are all here for in-depth analyses of the dresses we love and dream about.

Here is where Jenna Ortega came into play, because of what she wore to the delayed Emmy Awards 2023 this past January.

Ortega looked regal in a Dior Haute Couture gown. According to the brand, “The dress, with its detailed floral designs, seemed to dance with light, highlighting its over 600 hours of dedicated embroidery.”

The dress was made out of rose des vents tulle, embroidered with a silver soutache trellis, wisteria, rose, clematis garlands, silk and sequins.

The “Wednesday” actress paired her ensemble with a pair of see-through Christian Louboutin Crystal Strass Follies 100 silver pumps, a Gem Dior ring on her right middle finger, a Gem Dior bracelet on her left wrist, a matching necklace in white gold and diamonds, plus–according to a press release–a pair of Rose Dior Couture earrings in white gold and diamonds.

Her makeup was in slight contrast with her dress, but it was strategic because it echoed the peculiarities of her dress, like the little lilac sequins and their way of reflecting light.

Mélanie Inglessis–her makeup artist for the occasion–using Dior Beauty products, made sure to put her usual rock ‘n’ roll spin on it, making the eyes look almost grungy, which is very much in line with Jenna‘s personality and Inglessis‘ way of approaching even the simplest looks.

The skin was almost bare, with little and bigger freckles coming though, which made everything feel youthful and cohesive.

According to articles by Allure and US Weekly Inglessis used the following key products to achieve the desired result: the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation (no shade specified), the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette (no name of the palette specified), the Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara, the Rosy Glow Blush in ‘Pink‘ and the Rouge Dior lipstick in #976Daisy Plum‘ (take everything mentioned with a grain of salt, we can’t confirm that these were actually the products used by the pro).

When it came to the hair, pro hairstylist Bobby Eliot opted for a ’70s wolf cut, a do that truly combines Jenna‘s attitude with something appropriate for a red carpet and suitable for everyday wear, after you aren’t under the spotlight anymore.

For her nails, Thuy Nguyen went the natural route and created an oval-shaped, reflective manicure, following the same approach of her MUA colleague. The nails played with the colors present in the actress’ dress, a testament to the care each professional puts into the final outcome.

Ortega liked this dress immediately because it resembled an art piece, so much so that she did not even want to sit not to “hurt” it. In a video she taped for Dior, she recognized the fact that the dress was a sort of antithesis to her dark character in “Wednesday” but she also emphasized the fact that she liked its way of reflecting light.

The “Miller’s Girl” actress was styled by Enrique Melendez, who has been a loyal companion for her throughout all these years.

For this particular occasion, I admired the fact that even though the dress was delicate and opposite to the way people perceive her, she didn’t forget her nature and expressed her femininity in a subtle way that felt organic and genuine to her.

She sometimes goes out of her comfort zone with clothes but she never forgets who she is, which makes her a grounded, well-rounded person who is incredibly wise beyond her years–a delight for someone who admires her (including myself).

I am waiting with bated breath to see what the promo for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will bring us, I am sure Melendez and Jenna are concocting something incredible, dark, gothic and twisted and rest assured that we will report about it in the future–it’s literally our bread and butter.
