Jared Eng is a fashion stylist, co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the celebrity news site Just Jared together with his chief executive officer brother Jason Eng.
The website has since expanded to a sister site: Just Jared Jr., which covers teens and young celebrities.
Eng started his fashion journey more than 15 years ago in Queens, NY. Living with an Asian family who allowed him and his brother only half an hour TV a week. They never took him to a movie theatre or a concert and their mentality was pretty much only focused on school, religion and work.
In 2000 Jared started blogging, mainly writing about himself, hopping on different free-web hosting sites such as Tripod or Yahoo. While studying at Columbia University, where he majored in Computer Science, he discovered pop culture and his journaling evolved into a more celebrity focused type. He studied red carpet photos and wrote about them, noticing that he’d get more traffic on his blog whenever he’d write about people different than himself.
He founded Just Jared in 2005 and when it eventually slowly took off, he was able to make a living out of it.
Thanks to his work on the site, he decided to venture into styling. After years of crediting brands and looking at pictures, he’s now the one who photographs every outfit before it hits the red carpet to see if it looks good. He’s a firm believer that it all comes down to how things photograph, and expensive things do not always equal a good shot.
At first, he did not intend to become a stylist, it was when his friend Joey King needed help being dressed for a Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party and the Vanity Fair Afterparty in 2019 that he really came into play and Jared Eng Studios started.
Of course he doesn’t have a full-time assistant at the moment because his clients are manageable and he’s pretty much learning the logistics of styling on the job. He is although humble in realizing that because people know him from Just Jared, he is at least allowed chances here and there. He is also smart to understand the implications that getting a specific dress on a specific celebrity has.
He has some detractors too, but he focuses on his work and does his own thing anyway.
His roster of clients right now includes Joey King, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Soko and Jaime King among others.
