In an interview for Vogue.co.uk, Miss Bieber recalled her excitement for the theme and what she decided to opt for: “When they announced the theme for this year I was actually really excited because I am a church girl. I’m not Catholic but I identify with religion and the church so I was super excited.”

“[I wanted to] go for the more ethereal and angelic goddess side of religion, but also something that has a little bit of a twist. Every reference I’ve had has been these super ethereal goddess vibes and then Baz Luhrmann. I’m excited for it all to come together. There is always a lot of build up getting there and then everything just sort of magically works out.”

“I went with the Tommy team in 2016 and they are just amazing. They really listen to everything I suggest and they really try to make it happen and then always always deliver. We started to talk of the dress and do the first sketches in February. And although this dress is very comfortable, going to the Met is not about comfort. You have to reflect the theme. […] In the past, I’ve gone with people where I didn’t have that much of a say in the design, but Tommy really had me involved in the design process which is really cool. It’s such a cool process to be able to see something come alive like that.”

Choosing a look that would go with the theme proved not an easy task for her stylist Maeve Reilly, who during an interview for InStyle explained the way she dealt with it: “I personally researched a lot. Hailey is very religious, but we didn’t feel pressure to, like, not insult anybody. The idea that she and I ran with was her idea. I just sort of helped her cultivate it. It’s definitely the least insulting thing you could ever do for this theme.”

“I think the best advice is to [rather] be safe than sorry.”

Her colorist Ryan Pearl explained why they went for that beautiful pink while talking to Teen Vogue: “Both Hailey and I wanted to make a statement with her color. Pink hair is perfect for spring, and it’s incredibly flattering to all skin tones. I like to think of hair color as an accessory: it can add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral look.”

According to Redken‘s Instagram, these were the shades used to achieve the pink of her hair. It was adorned with a Jennifer Behr Vera Circlet and custom flowers from Jeff Leatham.

Not to mention that her makeup matched it perfectly, indeed makeup artist Dendoll used Laura Mercier products (detailed here) on her face and Vaseline Intensive Care Essential Healing lotion for her body glow

Manicurist Dawn Sterling tagged the products she used to create that sparkly manicure in this Instagram post.

Jewelry consisted of Tiffany & Co. rings and earrings, carefully identified here.
