Lime green has been the color of the season for quite some time, and we love to see it on the red carpet. Case in question: the magnificent dress Gugu Mbatha-Raw wore to the premiere of “Surface” at The Morgan Library on July 25, 2022 in New York City.
Mbatha-Raw looked incredible in a lime green Alexander McQueen draped poly faille gown with a built-in cape detail, from the Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear collection.
Of course, the choice of the dress was not left to chance, indeed in an interview for Vogue, the actress raved about the ensemble and its design: “The structure of the dress was so striking, and had real architecture to it. There’s something about this dress that’s very feminine, but it also has an edge to it, which is something you always find with McQueen.” […] “I love that there’s a lot of fabric and pleating. It’s very interesting—it’s not uniform.”
Even the color played a big part in the decision: “Green is the color of the Heart Chakra. I love what green represents: life and freshness.”
Mbatha-Raw combined her gown with silver Malone Souliers Iona mules, Cartier peridot and diamond earrings, a Cartier peridot and diamond bracelet and an Alexander McQueen four-ring skull studded clutch featuring crystal embellishment, gemstone detailing, stud detail, knuckleduster design and silver-tone hardware.
Makeup artist Vincent Oquendo seemed to use (judging from his kit) products by Shiseido, Pat McGrath, Lashify and Makeup by Mario to create a reverse smokey eye on the actress, with a glittery eyeshadow on the eyelids and a lime green accent near the tear ducts.
Hairstylist Nai’vasha used Curl Queen haircare products to style Gugu‘s hair in two shirt micro braids, making sure the hair was nourished and shiny–she also used T3 Micro tools to achieve the final result.
The “Loki” actress’ nails were painted by manicurist Aja Walton in a dark red shade that contrasted perfectly with the color of the dress.
Surface is an American psychological thriller miniseries created by Veronica West for Apple TV+. It premiered on July 29, 2022.
In the series, Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays Sophie, a woman who after surviving a suicide attempt, has lost her recent memories, including the reason why she decided to jump. She tries to piece together the reasons for her attempted suicide.
