Gigi Hadid is a chameleonic model, truly equipped with her own personal taste and deep pockets full of fashion knowledge and respect for her peers.

That being said, I am a lover of the unconventional and the blonde beauty’s look for last year’s CFDA Fashion Awards definitely caught my attention.

For the awards, Gigi wore a Thom Browne ensemble from the Spring 2023 Menswear collection, paired with a white Thom Browne cropped shirt with long sleeves, black patent leather Thom Browne curved heel longwing Brogues (same style as pictured below, not the same color) and white striped socks from the same brand.

She complemented her outfit with a gold Maria Tash Triple Granulated Cuff, Lagos Two-Tone Swiss Blue Topaz stud earrings, a Lagos sterling silver Caviar Spark pavé diamond ring on her right middle finger and a Lagos Two-Tone Knot diamond ring on her left middle finger.

The model’s makeup was pretty minimal but with a taste of punk: just a light wash of red tones on her lid and bottom lash line, plus separated lashes.

Celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta also applied a little bit of highlight on the inner corner of the eyes to open them up–the grey lipstick was the final touch.

Said striking lip was courtesy of Maybelline, indeed at the time of the event Gigi shared more details about it on her her Instagram stories by writing: “I told Patrick Ta I wanted a Thom Browne lip and then remembered I had a Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink lipstick in ‘Huntress‘ in my glam-room stash… thankful this is not a color we had to mix up because it would have been a mess. Let me tell you-I went through the entire award show last night… food… drinks… tears. This stuff DOES NOT MOVE!”

Hadid‘s hair was styled by Laura Polko in an intricate knotted updo, probably because it was one of the only ways not to contrast with the many patterns of her look, making it stand out on its own; the nails were kept natural.

I love how Gigi can be totally unpredictable by wearing a jockstrap to an award show and look classy and chic the next day. She is a versatile model, and despite her young age, she is wise beyond her years.

In this particular instance I appreciated the fact that she chose to wear an American brand that has undoubtedly one of the most enviable craftsmanships available, not forgetting the incomparable mind of its creative director and what the brand stands for just by solely existing.

As always, she worked and collaborated with stylist and friend Mimi Cuttrell, a professional who can truly do no wrong in this layered fashion field.

The organization promotes American designers in the global economy. In addition to hosting the annual CFDA Fashion Awards, the organization develops future American design talent through scholarships and resources in high schools, colleges, and post-graduate schools.
