First of all, I would like to kindly apologize because I’ve been MIA for two weeks and it was something I was not specifically meaning to do but working with very high temperatures in front of a computer that was constantly heating up was impossible for me, I am sure you can relate to that.
I am not very good at balancing rest and work and I had to admit to myself that I needed some time to sleep and recharge. The weather is still hot though, but I hope the worst is behind us.
During these past weeks I had the chance to reflect and there was a specific red carpet appearance that I was willing to analyze, that of Fabien Frankel for the French premiere of “House of the Dragon“.
Luckily, I was able to find a detailed article by British GQ that painted him under a different light for me and I am eager to share with you what I found out about his fashion philosophy and his approach to vintage.
For the occasion, Frankel donned a vintage beige suit with a matching Edward Sexton shirt underneath, a black tie with gold designs that was kindly provided to him by his stylist Luke Day, accessorized with black Christian Louboutin loafers that the actor bought in Amsterdam.
The touch of class was definitely his grey Santos-Dumont watch by Cartier with a yellow gold case and bezel, satin-finish grey sunray-brushed dial and semi-matte grey alligator leather strap.
According to the aforementioned article, the French-English actor avoids getting dressed by one brand only and prefers mixing vintage ensembles with new ones (which rings as quite unusual because men tend to have deals in place with brands they have a connection with and that’s pretty much what they’ll wear throughout their press tours–specifically for meaningful red carpets).
During the interview, Frankel fervently praised his stylist Luke Day while expanding on how the styling for a typical public appearance works: “An average collaboration between the pair sees Day assemble around twelve complete looks for an event and leave it up to Frankel to decide closer to the time.
‘We’re always doing something vintage mixed with something new mixed with something of mine mixed with something of his.’
You can clearly see that this method precisely reflects the way Fabien puts his own spin on something that people would normally see as forced from above or the result of a transactional commercial relationship.
I see the “Venice at Dawn” actor’s collaboration with his stylist Luke Day as refreshing, indeed I particularly like the exchange of ideas, inspirations and clothes that they have, which makes Frankel seem unpretentious and genuine.
Day‘s background in editorial work is probably an incentive that allows Fabien to trust him while shaping his public image while he is still a rising star (for sure I assume you’d love to have someone very experienced to know better than you what works and what doesn’t).
The heartthrob’s grooming was courtesy of Nadia Altinbas who covered up some of the actor’s imperfections and made sure his short hairdo was kept in place.

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO.
A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season.
Based on parts of Martin‘s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.
Fabien Frankel stars as Ser Criston Cole, a swordsman from the Dornish Marches and the common-born son of the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven.
