Yesterday, HBO aired the first episode of the second season of the series “House of the Dragon” and what I can say is that I meticulously followed its press tour and that I can confidently affirm that it subtly–or not that much–was one of the best ones this year.

Each one of the characters has a specific aura and a specific style and it’s important to see them represented in all their facets, from romantic ones to some edgier and more gender-bending.

I was particularly impressed by Ewan Mitchell and his ensemble for the London premiere of the series, which firstly paid homage to the location by choosing a British luxury fashion house and then delved deep into the dark aesthetic of the HBO show.

For the event, Mitchell was seen wearing a warm brown Alexander McQueen long peaked lapel coat, kept together by multiple rounds of a black string, paired with black washed bell bottom jeans from the Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection.

He also accessorized it with a gold Alexander McQueen skull necklace, which was carefully placed on his alabaster chest.

The little chain on the back of the coat looked so much like a “T”, that I would love to see as something elegantly related to the Targaryen surname, but I know that it’s probably just a reach.

One of the most “shocking” things about his look was Ewan‘s blond hair color, which apparently was something that groomer and hairstylist Brady Lea envisioned for the premiere.

During an interview for Hero Magazine it was Mitchell himself who revealed that while he was doing a press junket in the morning, he wore a hat to hide it and Lea actually painted parts of his hair back to his normal color to keep it a secret.

According to his colorist (@chloe.colour on Instagram) the desired result was achieved in one session and the hat was planned so that it was a surprise for everyone–and surprised we definitely were.

Groomer and hairstylist Brady Lea was very keen on keeping the skin supple and clear and the hair was such a masterpiece of physics and engineering that the pro even told the actor not to touch it while he was looking at himself in the mirror while getting ready (the short coif was styled with Dyson Hair tools).

Mitchell was dressed by Davey Sutton, a stylist and fashion editor who has been on my radar since I first saw him working with the “Saltburn” actor for the Comic Con Experience at the end of last year.

As I always mention, with someone with such a storied resume and Sutton‘s editorial background, one can truly bet that the possibilities are endless and that the conversation between him and his client is rooted in a storytelling that we are seeing developing in front of our eyes–which I find fascinating.

Two years ago, Ewan Mitchell could have seemed a background actor, but right now, with the help of Sutton, he’s harnessing his power as a lead, both on the show and on the red carpet.

And don’t get me started on Sutton‘s work with the lovely Emily Carey, I still can’t get over her Noir Kei Ninomiya ensemble for this year’s BRIT Awards.

━━━━━━━━━━━━

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO.

A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season.

Based on parts of Martin‘s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

Ewan Mitchell stars as Prince Aemond Targaryen: the third child and second son of King Viserys I Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower. He lost his left eye in a quarrel with his nephews.
