I’m feeling down these days and I thought there was no better way to put it than to write about it through the wardrobe of someone who has a very dark aesthetic, case in point: Dove Cameron.

To attend last year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, the entertainer donned a Coach floor-length black leather dress with a back slit from the Spring-Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection, paired with black Giuseppe Zanotti Bebe platform sandals.

She also paired her ensemble with a black Coach Tabby Shoulder Bag 26 with pillow quilting and gold accents, plus stacked Otiumberg silver earrings.

Her makeup was pretty dark and courtesy of Kale Teter. All the attention was focused on the eyes thanks to a lovely smokey eye that was blended towards her temples, the lips were slightly overlined and filled-in with a creamy nude lipstick.

Dove‘s hair was styled in a mid ponytail by Jacob Rozenberg, who–according to US Weekly–described it as “architectural”.

In an interview for the American weekly magazine, the pro explained why he chose this specific style and how he achieved it: “We wanted to play off Dove‘s stunning Coach gown by taking the early 2000s nod in her look and creating an architectural Y2K ponytail with stunning body and bounce.”

Cameron washed her tresses with Dove’s Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner to “prep her strands” and prevent “damage or breakage caused by heat styling and accessory usage.”

Rozenberg then “coated” her locks with Dove’s Hair Therapy 7-in-1 Miracle Mist, which helps detangling and gives hair a “shine throughout styling.” Next, Rozenberg took a blow dryer and a round brush “to give the body of her hair a nice bouncy texture.”

At the parameters, he used his 1.25-inch Harry Josh Flat Iron “to straighten the top edges and make sure the strands were extra smooth.”

Then he separated the front of her hair into one-inch sections on either side of her face, using the temples to the ear as his guide to separate a clean section. For the rest of her hair, he “carefully brushed pieces back into a mid-level pony in the center of her head and used a super stretchy elastic made of headband material to ensure to prevent unnecessary breakage.”

“To seal off split ends, Rozenberg then went in with Dove’s Brilliant Gloss & Repair Serum to add ‘extra glossiness.’ He completed the ‘do by using a toothbrush and Dove’s Style + Care Flexible Hold Spray to clean up Cameron’s hairline.

Rozenberg also added Hidden Crown hair extensions in the shade Dark Brown #2 to create fullness.”

Dove‘s short nails were painted with a rose-y hue by Mel Shengaris, with an almost invisible French. The manicure didn’t overpower the look and gave it a girlier feel, balancing it out.

Cameron does shift between different stylists depending on the occasion and this time she required the services of Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo, who go very hard when it comes to avant-garde ensembles.

The wardrobe combinations they go for are spectacular and immaculate, dark, sexy, with an edge, and above all: extremely feminine in the most interesting way.
