Donald Glover at “Swarm” Premiere – LA

Donald Glover is a new entry of this website, and I am so glad to write about him because I’ve been following his style choices and overall career for a while now.

I decided to detail his outfit for the Los Angeles premiere of the series “Swarm” because its cozy look made me dream about Autumn, a time of year that I enjoy a lot.

For the event, Glover wore a yellow Zegna Oasi Cashmere Polo Shirt with belted trousers from the Fall 2023 Menswear collection, paired with cream Mark Chris x Ilaria Urbinati Wylder soft calfskin leather loafers with the brand’s monogram on the back.

A further touch of class seemed to be a large Cartier Tank Française 1840 in 18k yellow gold on his left wrist (the low quality of the photo did not help that much).

I found an interesting GQ article by Eileen Cartter related to this specific ensemble and I would like to share it with you.

Stylist Ilaria Urbinati explained to the publication how the Black entertainer’s style has evolved through the years and how she nicknames him “zen Donald” because of his calmer demeanor in this new stage of his life and his fame.

Urbinati also revealed that she wanted to dress him with this Zegna get-up for this year’s Vanity Fair afterparty but realized he already wore a yellow ensemble to the same event last year.

Luckily he was fine with it anyway, and decided to play with the Beyhive reference, heavily present in the series.

The celebrity stylist also elaborated on how refreshing it is to work with the famed singer: “I always jokingly refer to him as my muse. I work differently with different clients. Sometimes it’s more like, ‘Oh, I’m really into this right now. I’m into that.’ With him, almost whatever else is happening in the world of fashion doesn’t really have a bearing on what I put on him, as much as what I’m reading off of his mood.”

“It’s an interesting thing because it is a time when everyone is wearing crazy shit, and you don’t want it to get into this weird peacocking of trying to wear crazy stuff for the sake of it. But Donald? He’s down to play”.

The grooming was courtesy of Christine Nelli who used Ouidad products and Chicago Comb tools to make sure his hair and beard looked their best.

I think Ilaria Urbinati said it all: he is not afraid of the red carpet and he has his own creative approach to it. I also personally appreciate when people tie themes of movies or series with evocative colors because in my eyes it denotes involvement in the process, not just you being a puppet of the fashion powers that may be.

All her clients do switch from formal ensembles to informal ones depending on the occasion, and their different personalities do influence her styling process–and it shows.

Swarm is an American satirical comedy horror thriller television series created by Janine Nabers and Donald Glover. It follows Dre (played by Dominique Fishback), a young woman whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn.

Glover also served as Executive Producer, actor for a limited time on screen, director for the first episode and also composer for some of the tracks of the soundtrack.
