I am sure you have already heard about the series “Heated Rivalry” lately and I am also quite certain that you already know a lot about the actors who portray the characters you all loved in it.
Personally, I am fascinated by the cultural phenomenons that sometimes arise and grow, seemingly out of thin air, and I study them because they tell a lot about our society, relationships and the human experience.
Of course I couldn’t help but notice the styling choices made by both Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, that’s why I am here today, writing about the former.
For this year’s Golden Globes, Storrie donned a black Saint Laurent tuxedo, paired with a white men’s shirt underneath, a long black necktie and wide-leg pants.
The blond heartthrob accessorized his look with a pair of Saint Laurent SL 97 51mm metal aviator sunglasses with dark lenses, a Bird on a Rock by Tiffany brooch in platinum on his left lapel, illuminated by an emerald-cut diamond of over 13 carats.

He also wore a Tiffany & Co. Union Square watch in 18k gold, a Lock by Tiffany bangle in white gold with full pavé diamonds on his right wrist, a pair of T by Tiffany T1 earrings in 18k white gold with diamonds, plus a Tiffany Knot ring in yellow gold and diamonds on his right pinky.
What was even more fascinating about this look was the attention to the grooming, courtesy of Candice Birns.
People tend to overlook this step in a men’s routine or they simply don’t know that men get made up too, and that’s a real pity because if you are a makeup lover, this will open to you a whole new world of possibilities and inspirations that you wouldn’t necessarily come across if you are a woman or however you identify.
According to the brand, for skin prep, Birns used Sofie Pavitt Micellar Cleansing Pads (1), Mandelic Clearing Serum (2), and Omega Rich Moisturizer (3) for a clean, balanced finish on the red carpet.
Let’s see what the pro shared with her Instagram followers regarding the makeup too (slightly edited for clarity).
“When it comes to red carpet, complexion is everything. I started by applying a small amount of Milk Makeup’s unreleased complexion product (1) around the eyes to subtly brighten and even the complexion. Then I followed with the Hydro Grip Hydrating Gel Skin Tint (2) across the rest of the face for sheer, natural coverage.

After my base is completed, I lightly swept the Matte Bronzer (3) onto the cheeks, then softly blended across the temples, forehead, and down the bridge of the nose to add warmth and a healthy glow. I finished with a touch of Balmade Electrolyte Tinted Lip Balm (4) for natural color, set the brows in place with KUSH Brow Lamination Gel (5), and locked everything in with a mist of Hydro Grip Hydrating Setting Spray (6).”
What truly caught my attention was Connor‘s hairdo though (which Candice called a ‘mod mullet‘), because you’ll probably never guess what was the inspiration behind it.
In an article for GQ, the famed hairstylist/men’s groomer stated that the inspiration “struck during a flight when Kurt Cobain‘s mugshot from 1986 came across her feed.”
She elaborated further: “I started looking for Patrick Swayze in Point Break, and then I pulled up an old photo of the Beatles, like circa ’67 era, and I was like, ‘OK, if the three of these had a baby, this could be your hair.’”
She immediately texted her idea to Storrie who knew something was afoot once he understood that he was going to wear Saint Laurent for the Golden Globes.
Here is a little tutorial on how to replicate the hairstyle at home, which the groomer detailed during the interview:
“Styling the look started with wetting the hair and adding a curl cream, a hair oil, and mousse pomade to ‘give the hair a bit of grit and grease to it.’
The idea was for the hair to have a bit of an edge and remove any of the usual fluffiness. To tame the natural waviness of the hair, Birns went in with a tight nozzle attachment on her blow dryer, smoothening and straightening the locks with her fingers, essentially pulling out the curls.
Birns’ final touch for the mod mullet involved taking a flat iron to create the ‘flips’ at the ends of the hair at both the front and back of the style. An all-over spray completed the style, giving the hair a wet appearance and also highlighting the dimension and texture of the hair.”
She only had one hour to get him ready, but she clearly did her absolute best.
Storrie was styled by James Yardley.
