Actress, director and producer Bryce Dallas Howard is probably one of the most interesting conscious personalities red carpet-wise. Let us explain why.

First of all, let’s begin with what she wore for the 2017’s BAFTAs at the Royal Albert Hall on February 12, 2017 in London, England.

A black Solace London cut out backless dress with a long slit in the back, paired with Jimmy Choo black and gold ankle tie heels and a simple minimal pair of golden earrings embellished with little pearls.

The actress does not require the services of a stylist, and all of this has a way deeper meaning according to an interview for Vanity Fair: “It […] is a small rebellion against the machinery of stardom that lately dictates complex collaborations between actors, stylists, and designers who are willing to shell out big bucks to get stars into their clothes.

She personally shops her own clothes from websites like Neiman MarcusNordstromNet-a-PorterModa Operandi, and Asos.

During her press tour for Jurassic World in 2015, Howard noticed that the samples available to borrow from fashion houses were limited in size, and she admitted that she was not one and that probably she would have never been one. The actress had a stylist before, but once she got pregnant, she realized that on top of buying her clothing, she had to have the clothes tailored, and then pay a stylist fee even though the studio covered it.

“I realized that I needed to stop trying to have a conversation with fashion. That I just needed to get back to having a conversation with myself, in what just looks and feels best for this thing that I’m going to tonight.”

“So Howard and her agent conspired that shopping for her own press-tour wardrobe, rather than working with a power stylist and struggling to find available samples, would be ‘so much more fun’. […] She now relies on a system of girlfriends to shop with her, look through possibilities online, and weigh in on what they like and don’t like, what works and what doesn’t.”

She consigns regularly and she also auctions some dresses and donates the proceeds to charitable organizations.

During the award show, Bryce presented (together with actor Riz Ahmed) American animator Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) with the award for Best Animated Film.

Lately she had her feature film directorial debut with the documentary film Dads on Apple TV+ and she has also been directing some episodes from the second season of The Mandalorian.
