My favorite outfit from last year’s Cannes Film Festival was the one that Bella Hadid wore to the “Tre Piani” red carpet. Incredible craftsmanship, luxe materials, opulence and the stuff of dreams.

For the festival, Bella looked like a masterpiece in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture long-sleeved dress in wool crepe with a low-cut neckline, and a gilded brass necklace in the shape of trompe l’œil lungs adorned with Swarovski crystals from the Fall 2021 Couture collection.

A little curiosity regarding the lungs and why Schiaparelli‘s creative director Daniel Roseberry developed them as a concept for his collection (straight from a Vogue UK interview): “I was thinking about our emergence from this time of Covid, and wanting to pay tribute to the idea of breathing, crystalising the lungs to make them eternal. We spend so much time thinking about and obsessing over these parts of our bodies that we cannot see, and the lungs are a way of almost capturing that relationship that we have with our own breathing.”

If that wasn’t enough, the magnificent ensemble was paired with Chopard earrings in 18kt rose gold with 24.97 carats of rubies and diamonds from the Haute Joaillerie Collection, a Chopard ring from the Red Carpet collection in ethical Fairmined-certified 18kt rose gold and titanium with an opal cabochon of 43.46 carats and set with yellow sapphires, orange sapphires, black diamonds, rubies and amethysts–finishing off the look with a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti stilettos.

In a video interview for Vogue, where Bella broke down 15 of her looks from 2015 till 2021, she explained that the dress was winter-y, so she felt a bit hot, and that it was very bizarre walking onto the carpet with a breeze in places you wouldn’t usually have a breeze. She also said that the necklace wasn’t as heavy as one would expect, but was quite fine.

Her makeup was pretty simple and very 90’s, courtesy of Sam Visser who used Dior Beauty products to achieve it, whereas Peter Lux revealed that her hair was inspired by hairstylist Ara Gallant and his avant-garde creations.
