On this Thursday’s version of method styling, I am very eager to write about what Black stunner Ayo Edebiri chose to wear for the Los Angeles premiere of the movie “Inside Out 2” last month.

Edebiri looked breathtaking in a teal custom Bottega Veneta look which appeared to be a different iteration of a design from the Pre-Fall 2024 collection, paired with black Bottega Veneta Cha Cha Mule sandals with an almond open toe and flared heel.

While walking the red carpet, I could spot her accessories: a pair of teal Bottega Veneta Small Fin geometric earrings, crafted in hand-enamelled sterling silver–a little detail that made the difference.

You may ask yourself why I am talking about method styling, and well, it’s because the little new emotion she voices in the movie has the same color and same hairstyle, which she translated into human form.

Her makeup was simply delicious, but I couldn’t expect anything less from Ernesto Casillas, an incredible artist who was quick to realize that there was a lack of professionals who truly knew how to work with deeper skin tones when he first started out.

The makeup look was pretty natural and earthy–Casillas played with browns and peach-y tones, opting for a reflective–almost wet–lid and creamy brown lips. He also intensified the actress’ eyes with voluminous false lashes and a black eyeliner flick.

Here are the products the pro mentioned using, courtesy of MAC Cosmetics (slightly edited for clarity):

HyperReal Serum
Studio Fix Fluid ‘NW44‘ (foundation)
– Pro Brow Definer Pencil in ‘Onyx
MACStack Mascara in ‘Black
Mβ€’Aβ€’CXIMAL Silky Matte Viva Glam Lipstick in ‘Viva Equality

The “Bottoms” actress’ hair was styled by Miles Jeffries in loose waves, purposefully mimicking those of the character she voices in the movie. Wide curtain bangs kept her hair off the face, making the look very fresh and Summer-y.

One of the cutest parts of this look were Ayo‘s outstanding iridescent nails, courtesy of Eri Ishizu.

On her Instagram, Ishizu detailed her process which consisted in:
– blending together different AprΓ©s gel nail polishes in the shades ‘Morning Sighs‘, ‘In The Navy‘ and ‘Royal Stamp‘ with a Clear Base to marble the colors.
– Applying a Non Wipe Top Coat on the nails to then let them dry.
– Concluding by applying an iridescent powder on the nails and then scooping the Non Wipe Toap Coat to mold the 3D design.

The result was a multicolored glassy manicure that made us fall in love instantly.

Edebiri was styled by Danielle Goldberg, a true gem in the dressing biz.

Her fruitful collaboration with Ayo is what we all were missing from the red carpet: something delightful, contemporary, fresh and truly stylish. I don’t know what it is, but Goldberg has a keen eye for what’s impactful, straightforward and smooth. Those in the know can feel it and those who don’t are immediately captured by it, it’s a destabilizing force at times.

I’m truly grateful for her presence in the field and the fame she is getting from her work with Ayo is just the cherry on top of a cake that should have been served years ago already; she’s always been that good.
