I would like to close the week by writing about a dress that I thought was worthy of notice thanks to its connections to the roots of the person wearing it–to some it could seem just a normal girly dress, but to many it had major significance behind the surface.

I’m talking about what Auli’i Cravalho wore to the London premiere of the very much anticipated animated movie sequel “Moana 2“.

Cravalho donned a blue and pink Hibiscus floral-embroidered Oscar de la Renta sleeveless gown with round neck, paired with white Christian Louboutin Movida Jane 130 leather sandals with chunky heel.

She accessorized her outfit with a Graziela GemsSomething Blue‘ Ring in 18k gold and 1.89 carats of Paraiba Tourmaline on her left ring finger, among other jewelry pieces by Tiffany & Co., Melinda Maria and Effy.

Auli’i looked gorgeous, indeed her makeup artist Kirin Bhatty painted her lids with a glittery eyeshadow with a seemingly clear base, accentuating it with a soft trait of brown eyeliner to elongate the eyes. Her face was luminous and a rosy lipstick matched the flowers on her dress.

Famously, the Hibiscus is Hawaii’s state flower and it represents the beauty, culture and vibrant spirit of the islands.

The flower is not only beautiful but it also has medicinal uses: the petals and extracts have been traditionally used to alleviate stomach issues, stimulate appetite and provide relief for cold symptoms.

Furthermore, it also has anti-inflammatory properties and some studies even claim that Hibiscus consumption can help you maintain healthy blood pressure levels; of course this does not mean that its use is intended to replace the advice of healthcare professionals.

If you’d like to know more about it, I suggest you read this thorough article on the topic.

Some fans online also mused about the fact that the light blue of the dress could symbolize the Pacific Ocean and I can’t honestly unsee it, so I think they are onto something there–I genuinely think there was some intention behind it and the Dominican fashion designer Oscar de la Renta is famous for his incredible, dreamy flower gowns.

The actress’ skin prep was courtesy of esthetician Joanna Vargas.

Cravalho‘s hair was styled by Cynthia Alvarez in a side parted, short, wavy do. The hairstyle gave an airy feel to the soft, see through Oscar de la Renta gown.

Hawaiian manicurist Ashley opted for an almond shaped light blue chrome French manicure, decorated with pearl charms. The pro was very helpful in writing down a list of the products she used to create it on her Instagram–here are all the details:

– Aprés – Short Almond Gel-X® tips
Aprés – “Find My Porpoise” nail polish,
paired with “Moonglade Chromeby LeChat Nails and pearl charms

Auli’i was styled by Jessica Paster, who is not new to making bold fashion statements through show stopping gowns.

I think I can very confidently say that the pro was very intentional in conveying the actress’ emotional connection to her roots as she was born in Kohala, Hawaii, and how much the movie changed her life and gave her many deserved job opportunities that will help (and already have for many of us) people understand how talented and lovely she is.
