To close this week, I’d like to write about the undeniable savoir–faire of a brand that to me embodies French luxury in a way not many can, in a subtle but very effective way, courtesy of model Anok Yai who was present at this year’s Vanity Fair‘s party.
Yai was a stunner in a purple Alaïa asymmetric dress from the Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection, paired with black Alaïa patent leather ankle shoes with a round toe.
She complemented her look with a pair of diamond earrings, a statement ring on her right middle finger and a Joseph Saidian and Sons 16 carat ceylon sapphire diamond cocktail ring on her left one.
In a video interview for Harper’s Bazaar, the model commented on the dress, reiterating her love for it by saying: “When I saw it in my room I was just like: ‘This is the dress that I have to go with’.
I really liked the way one side of my body was out and then I liked how transparent the other side was, and the juxtaposition was amazing–and the color of the purple was so beautiful. I felt like a queen when I wore this dress.”
She also explained how she tried to keep the same pose to showcase her side slit, something that probably annoyed the photographers that night.
One of the most interesting things about the dress is that the creative director of the Parisian Maison Pieter Mulier created the entire collection using only a single merino yarn, a testament to his skills and craftsmanship.
The key makeup artist for this look was Keita Moore, who was assisted by Dennese Rodriguez.
Rodriguez opted for ombré lips, making them look bigger by applying gold on Anok‘s upper lip, which she also tied with the gold inner corners of her eyes. A black eyeliner pencil on the upper and lower lash line and natural looking false lashes made the look even more sultry and sensual.
To give life to the face, she also applied a light rose-y blush on the cheekbones.
The overall creative direction was courtesy of Moore.
Shelli Mosley styled the Black beauty’s hair in a short pixie cut, giving the model the edge she is known for. This is one of the hairstyles which suit her the most.
To conclude, let’s discuss nails deets, because manicurist Christa Cole created a pink French almond shaped manicure for Anok and was kind enough to share the products she used with her Instagram followers.
Here’s the list (slightly edited for clarity):

Yai was styled by Carlos Nazario, an incredible dresser who knows how to make a woman look her best in every circumstance. You can clearly see that he loves the women he works with and he’ll never make them look less than they deserve.
There is a whole discourse about men’s designers and their target and even male stylists and their female clients, and I think that he is the perfect example of someone who treasures the female client’s input, and I’d say: with the best outcome.
