Ana de Armas‘ look for this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Afterparty was–to me–an hidden gem of the past award season. This Wednesday I’d like to reminisce about it with you.
During the afterparty, de Armas stunned in a custom Louis Vuitton “stained glass” looking floral dress with thigh-high slit. Its designs were reminiscent of some looks from the Resort 2024 collection.

She accessorized it with a pair of silver ankle sandals, a Louis Vuitton High Jewelry emerald cocktail ring and a silver pair of earrings that was barely visible because it was covered by her hair.
As it often happens, custom Louis Vuitton ensembles can be difficult to identify if you are not well versed into each one of their collections, but that’s what makes looking for the original inspiration fun and entertaining.
Her makeup artist for the occasion, Mélanie Inglessis, focused on Ana‘s dewy skin, accentuating her eyes with juicy, shimmery pinks. The pro defined the finished result with this sentence: “A romantic rose gold metallic eye and a glossy stained lip.”
The look was the same she had on the Oscars’ red carpet, Inglessis probably had to touch it up a bit just in case.
The product breakdown was courtesy of a press release by Estée Lauder, you can find it here below:
“Skin Prep: Revitalizing Supreme+ Youth Power Creme;
Foundation: Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation in ‘2W1 Dawn‘;
Concealer: Double Wear Radiant Concealer in ‘2N Light Medium‘;
Powder: Double Wear Sheer Flattery Loose Powder in ‘Translucent Soft Glow‘;
Bronzer: Bronze Goddess Healthy Glow Bronzer in ‘Sunrise‘;
Blush: Pure Color Envy Sculpting Blush in ‘220 Pink Kiss‘;

Brows: The Brow Multi-Tasker in ‘06 Chestnut‘;
Eyeshadow: Limited-Edition Pure Color Envy Luxe Eyeshadow Quad in ‘Rose & Shine‘ &
Pure Color Envy Luxe Eyeshadow Quad in ‘03 Aubergine Dream‘;
Mascara: Sumptuous Extreme Mascara in ‘Extreme Black‘
Lips: Pure Color Creme Lipstick in ‘440 Irresistible‘ and ‘697 Renegade‘ & Pure Color Envy Nighttime Rescue Lip Oil Serum.”

The “Blonde” Actress hair was styled by Jenny Cho in soft waves caressing her back.
In an interview for Byrdie, Cho explained that the the dress she wore to the Oscars inspired her with a “morning dew” concept: “I wanted to showcase Ana‘s beautiful brown hair and have the dark silhouette contrast with the lighter color of the dress. I decided on a soft, effortless wave worn falling behind her shoulders. Powerful yet soft, beautiful, and feminine.”
“Ana has gorgeous hair, and I wanted to let it have its natural moment rather than over style it. 2023 is all about strong feminine energy.”
Here is the whole lowdown according to the article:
“After detangling de Armas‘ towel-dried hair with the T3 Detangling Duo, Cho applied the René Furterer Style Blowout Balm to minimize frizz, and then misted the René Furterer Style Protect Thermal Protecting Spray to protect from heat damage. ‘I blow-dried her hair with the T3 Airluxe Blow Dryer and T3 Volume 3 Round Brush, and turned on the Volume Boost Switch, adding a slight body and volume to the crown area and to smooth the tips’. She added in hair extensions for extra length.”
“To emphasize a relaxed-yet-sleek look, Cho created slight waves in de Armas‘ tresses. ‘Starting at the nape, I used my new T3 Switch Kit Curl Trio 1 ½ inch clip barrel iron to create soft, lived-in waves. I pinned each curl to cool in order to set for the night ahead’.”
“‘The best part about this look is it can evolve over time because it’s so natural. I added finishing spray to hold onto the wave, but the idea is to have hair that you can run your fingers through’. Finally, Cho added a high shine finish with the René Furterer Style Shine Mist and locked the look in with the René Furterer Style Finishing Spray.”

As for her nails, her manicurist Ashlie Johnson created an almond shaped manicure with glittery ends using:
– Aprés Natural Round Short Neutrals Gel-X Tips in the style ‘Maisie‘;
– Presto X Aprés Extend Gel;
– Silver flakes for shimmer and shine;
– Aprés Non-wipe Top coat.
Here is the process, according to Johnson‘s Instagram:
“I prepped and manicured her natural nails, then applied Maisie Gel-X with the Presto Extend gel.
I love that this is an all in one primer and bonder, making application super fast.
I cut and filed the tips into a short natural almond shape.
These tips are also the perfect color so I didn’t need to paint them!
Next I sprinkled the silver flakes onto an uncured top coat.
Cure, then applied another layer of top coat for extra shine.”

Stylist Samantha McMillen is one of the most eccentric and thoughtful humans out there, I appreciate the narratives she instills in the dresses she chooses for her clients and I personally love it when she explains which idea brought a gown to life (especially the custom ones).
Her work with Elle Fanning is just masterful and tells you how much you can do when an actor is willing to engage and risk and has a true eye and love for fashion–Fanning is undoubtedly an icon of our generation.
Ana‘s shift to the famed stylist was a step in the right direction, and wearing Louis Vuitton is not for the faint of heart.
Kudos to the “Blade Runner 2049” actress for trying to go out of her comfort zone!
