Model Adut Akech has built a name for herself through the years and gone are the days when I first saw a gorgeous, shy Black girl walk down the runway.
Now she gets to cherish what suits her best, with a newfound confidence and determination.
Lately she has been hitting some prominent red carpets out of pure pleasure and I loved what she wore to this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Afterparty–so let’s dive into it.
Akech looked ravishing in a Valentino Haute Couture bright green gown with plunging neckline from the “Un Château” Fall 2023 collection, along with a pair of black sandals and a green embellished Valentino Garavani Locò small shoulder bag with VLogo Signature plaque.
To accessorize the look, she opted for Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra earrings in 18K yellow gold and onyx, plus a matching Vintage Alhambra pendant necklace in 18K yellow gold and onyx.
Adut‘s makeup look played with her gentle features and her glow, which was achieved by celebrity MUA Keita Moore with Dr. Barbara Sturm products, specifically the Darker Skin Tones Hyaluronic Serum, the Darker Skin Tones Face Cream, the Face Mask and Glow Drops.
Moore framed the Black model’s eyes with a hint of black eyeliner pencil and voluminous false lashes, finishing off with glossy peachy ombré lips, the pro also mentioned using the Valentino Beauty line.
The hair was styled in a high sleek ponytail by Tym Wallace, curving the ends upwards for a more doll-like feel–he also made sure to secure her fringe on the side so that she did not have to care about it during the evening (for added inches, Wallace used D Hair extensions).
Her mentor Naomi Campbell probably told her that a good natural manicure is a must when it comes to these occasions, so Adut obliged by showing off natural, square, light pink nails.
We weren’t able to find out who styled her for the night, but I guess her friendship with Valentino‘s former Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli did the trick this time and she could choose among some great pieces from the second to last Couture collection he crafted for the brand.
Let’s not forget that Piccioli was one of the first to cast the South Sudanese-Australian model as the face of the Maison when she was just 19 years old, completely changing her life.
I think there is a big deal of gratitude that their collaborations exude, and I’m sure she’ll never forget what he did for her, something she would have never dreamt of.
