Versace FW 19/20 Fashion ShowMilan
Grunge and imperfection were the themes of the show and this may come as a surprise since Donatella Versace is a real perfectionist herself.
She took into account the fact that people nowadays scroll through social media so much, looking for perfection, so that maybe to see something not that perfect once in a while could feel like a breathe of fresh air.
Hence the almost-greasy-looking hair, softly caressing the models’ faces, paired with the gold opulence of the jewelry pieces that adorned their bodies.
Interesting to see the not-so-subtle nod to the 90’s and the use of the gold safety pin, graciously keeping the pieces of the dresses together.
We can clearly see the reference to Versace’s 1994 Spring Ready-to-Wear show, where we could admire models such as Helena Christensen, Christy Turlington, or Naomi Campbell strutting down the runway wearing those body fitting dresses that made women (and men) dream—gold safety pin included.
What is even more important is the fact that Donatella collaborated with the Richard Avedon Foundation, in order to create a T-shirt featuring a 1995 ad starring herself. At the time, Donatella was promoting Versace’s fragrance “Blonde”.
About the hair: “Hair pro Guido Palau also took Donatella’s rogue agenda to heart, dousing lengths in Redken’s Frizz Dismiss Anti-Static Oil Mist and meticulously sculpting them for a sleek, yet stringy feel.
This also called for fastening petite extensions around the face to give the hair an even more chunky, textured effect.”
