Rami Malek at MET Gala 2019
Rami Malek attended last year’s MET Gala together with his girlfriend Lucy Boynton and I must say, after watching their chemistry on screen for the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, it is no wonder the two wound up together for real.
For the event, he wore a custom black velvet Saint Laurent suit complete with matching velvet bow and underneath it, a sparkly black/dark greyish men’s shirt.
He accessorized the look with a Cartier clip-brooch: the body pavé-set with numerous round diamonds, the eyes set with pear-shaped emeralds, the nose with an onyx cabochon, sitting atop a line of square-shaped cabochon onyx and square-cut diamonds.
His sparkly black and red striped boots could probably be a reference to The Wizard of Oz‘s Dorothy shoes as mentioned by his stylist Ilaria Urbinati with the hashtag #dorothyshoes on her Instagram. The shoes, also called ruby slippers, are the magic pair of shoes worn by Dorothy Gale played by Judy Garland in the 1939 musical film The Wizard of Oz.
Because of their iconic status, the slippers are among the most valuable items of film memorabilia. In the L. Frank Baum‘s original 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, on which the film is based, Dorothy wears Silver Shoes. However, the color of the shoes was changed to red to take advantage of the new Technicolor film process used in big-budget Hollywood films of the era.
Apart from seeing him in the biographical drama film Bohemian Rhapsody, you’ll next see him in the movies No Time To Die and as a voice over for Chee-Chee in Dolittle.
